Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

13 points out of 8th and more importantly, they would need to jump 6 teams to do it.

The West is crazy good this year. Right now the bar is at 51 points, in the East it's at 43.

The teams in front of the CBJ are: Anaheim, St. Louis, Minny, Dallas, Detroit and LA and Vancouver are 8 and 7th in the west with 51 points.

At this time, the CBJ need a couple of teams to collapse that are IN the playoffs as well as they need to start winning their games against division and conference foes (11-15-7 / 2-3-4 / 4-6-1 / 5-6-2 ) against the West right now.

Looking at the teams in front of them, the only teams that are serious question marks are Phoenix and to a certain extent LA. Detroit is only going to get better as their team heals, Dallas has hit a rough stretch but still have the horses to get into the playoffs, and Anaheim has the veteran presence to turn it around.

Honestly I don't foresee this team finishing above 10th in the West. Part of it is the lack of consistency, turnovers and other struggles this team has had, but part of it due to how good the West is overall.

There's a rumor that Dion Phaneuf has requested a trade.

Phaneuf has apparently been playing good defense this year to go along with that great shot and the physicality that he brings. Jackets could use a guy like him.. badly.

I know there's no way he comes to Columbus.. but it'd be nice.

Yeah no way Columbus will get him and honestly no way Calgary trades him at this point anyway. Calgary has it's best shot at a Cup since 2004/2005 this year - they likely won't trade one of their centerpieces or else someone else will want out (Iginla)....

Agreed, and I'm not really sure why Phaneuf would want to leave that situation either. Unless it were to go to a major contender, which isn't going to happen because a major contender is going to have to give up an asset (or assets) to get a Phaneuf-type.

But it's not like Calgary is bad.

CBJ were 7-5-1 last time I shaved and 8-14-8 since then. The current beard was a great college football beard (4-0 for OSU, 3 against top-15 teams, 1 against UM) but has sucked for hockey. Time to haul out the hedge-trimmers and get it back in line and get a better hockey beard going. The streak begins tonight.

You've obviously never been to Calgary.

The logical move would be to trade Phaneuf to the Rangers so he can play with Sean Avery. :slappy:

You know, Phanuef's play has noticeably dropped off since that comment Avery made :slappy:

one step closer to a new coach

how many coaches last through a stretch like this? one. and he's doing it. time for a new one. it might not be his fault - but it's time for a change. this team has the talent to be playing at a level above high school. fucking ridiculous. and i just bought tickets to the game on the 18th. can't believe it.
