Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

Off to the arena again. This better be better than Wednesday night.

And for future reference.....2 OSU basketball games + 2 CBJ games in 5 nights makes for an unhappy wife. :shake:

Really, she's just pissed I didn't have any place to be on Tuesday night.

Report: Columbus Blue Jackets Need Financial Fix

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Columbus may have trouble holding on to the NHL's Blue Jackets because the club has been losing $12 million a year in central Ohio, according to a report released Thursday by a business group.
The report commissioned by the Columbus Chamber offers a variety of options for strengthening the hockey team's financial position, such as new taxes or fees or selling shares to other investors or the general public.
Other suggestions include allowing the team to renegotiate its lease for Nationwide Arena or trying to attract a second major tenant, such as a basketball team.
''It is important that our community retain this team,'' said Dave Blom, chairman of the Columbus Chamber board. ''The Columbus Blue Jackets impact our regional economy, support thousands of jobs and bring millions of dollars in tax revenue that contribute to our quality of life.''
In the decade following 1998, the year after investors began the move to bring the team to Columbus, the city's downtown Arena District has attracted various retail, restaurants and other businesses, increasing property values by 267 percent and employing thousands, the report says.
Columbus Blue Jackets President Mike Priest said that the team's current economic model has ''significant disadvantages'' and that it plans to work with public and private groups to find a solution.
Priest said the Blue Jackets, now in their ninth season, have built and maintained fan and corporate participation that has supported the team.

Just got back from the game.

the CBJ had absolutely no business winning that game. They couldn't clear their zone and couldn't hold onto the puck down low seemingly all game long.

The defensive effort was there, but now they have to tighten up their passing a bit.

Garon looked good. Nash was by far the best player on the ice as he should be. Tyutin had about the worst game of his career too.

I'm pretty sure he did it on purpose. I've dubbed it the "Captain Morgan".

I thought they played pretty well, certainly better than against Carolina and Atlanta. After the slow start and the penalties, I thought they did a nice job of getting the composure back. Garon had a couple big time saves (the glove save at the end of the 3rd :yow:) but the CBJ had a bunch of opportunities too.

About time they win games even when they don't look as sharp as they need to.

The officiating was absolutely terrible. Uncalled high stick penalties and Nasher getting mugged around the goal and a called (ticky tack) too many men on the ice penalty in overtime??

Those officials should donate their game checks to charity.

Wrong as usual, jerk. The paper has Nash saying he caught a skate in a rut and nearly fell.

I was a lot more impressed when I thought he meant to do it. :tongue2:

Was that 1st period the most atrocious period of officiating you've seen?

And then when Nash trucked Giggy, they got Getzlaf for holding :slappy:

The whole game was a bit sloppy if you ask me. The Jackets didn't have any legs until about midway through the first.

I really couldn't see much of anything in regards to the penalties. They all seemed to happen in areas of the ice that I couldn't get a good look at.

The cross-check on Chimera was pretty weak from what I saw in the replay.

I thought that was a good call, actually. But, that said.... Nash was mugged repeatedly with no call and there were some other pretty pathetic misses by the stripes throughout.

improvement? as compared to when? last year in general? or compared to the second half of the season? or the atrocious first half?

agreed it was a good call. granted its the kind of call you see a handful of times a game not called. and with chimmers antics so far this year not surprising it was called.

side notes phalsson is out, so is commie, fialtov is a healthy scratch and sestito will be on the fourth line tonite after a recall from the american league. that fourth line should be pretty big/physical tonight with boll/blunden/sestito.
