Disappointing result, but not terribly displeased with the team's play. Too casual with the puck for stretches, particularly the 3rd period. Detroit definitely won this game and was the better team, but despite the similar score, it wasn't anything like 4-0 dismantling from a couple weeks back. This felt more like a game Detroit should've won 3-2 or 2-1, not 4-1. A couple breaks here or there and the Jackets could have stolen this one.
DET 1. I don't know what happened to Russell's partner at the blue line, but there was contact with Hudler and the Jacket went down, leaving the 2-on-1. I never saw a good replay...what happened with the contact out there? CBJ initiated? Also, could Russell have been more useless on that rush? He didn't deny either the pass or the shot there. (Maybe it's just me, but has he looked particularly bad defensively for the last month?) Mason had no chance.
CBJ 1. Good forecheck and going to the net. This is how the CBJ needs to score. The tic-tac-toe shit is fun to watch, but not when you can't make the passes. Then it just leads to odd-man rushes.
DET 2. Oh, Manny. That's 2 in 2 games on shots that weren't even on net.
DET 3. Damn. Another tough break.
DET 4. Only soft one by Mason. But you still can't let a guy walk out unmolested on his forehand like that. Two CBJ took the other wing behind the net and left mule alone with the puck.
Near misses....Great glove save by Osgood on someone, crossbar by Peca (Somewhere, a Buffalo fan chuckles at Peca's misfortune), diving play by Vermette to stop Hossa's easy goal.
Jackets had their chances, but didn't bury them. You can't NOT be planting these when you've got the chance.
What concerns me is that Detroit didn't play all that well last night, and the Jackets didn't play terribly, but it was still a 4-1 loss. :ohwell:
