Ducks hit a wall against Blue Jackets

Mark Avery / Associated Press

Blue Jackets goalkeeper Steve Mason takes a shot off his facemask in the third period during a 2-0 shutout of the Ducks on Wednesday night.

Steve Mason makes 27 saves as Columbus shuts out Anaheim, which struggles to a 5-8-1 record in December.

The Ducks can go into the new year telling themselves they merely ran into a hot goaltender Wednesday.
They have too much talent to continue the meandering path they've followed this season. They can stand there like Kevin Bacon in "Animal House" screaming, "Remain calm, all is well."
But another dose of reality was served to them in a 2-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday. It left the Ducks sixth in the Western Conference, with eight teams below them within six points.

Huge game against the Avalanche coming up tomorrow night (Friday).

Mid day radio show here in Columbus has been recruiting CBJ players to punch Adam Foote in the face.

They need to do some business against COL and STL because DET and WAS are waiting after that.

I wonder what Pittsburgh would want for him....

after watching their debacle against FLA today I'd say they need anyone who isn't afraid to shoot the f'ing puck at the f'ing net. Overpassing team is an understatement. IMO they are in danger of the wheels falling off if they haven't already.

Lets hope Mason isn't worn out tonight. The Jackets and Blues are two teams headed in opposite directions right now but that can all change in one night.

that sequence with Tyutin and Huselius shows us why the instigator penalty is a fucking disgrace.

For those not watching Hus got cross-checked in the mouth by a Blues player and Tyutin dropped the gloves and went after the guy. I understand the 5 for fighting (the blues player got a game misconduct), but the instigator rule is stupid.

funny thing is I was watching the det/MIN game and they were talking about the union reps telling them(the announcers) that when they ask around the league about it the players overwhelmingly want it kept in place.

I also think it's why you need a guy like Jody Shelley on the roster. Say what you want about the "new" NHL, but guys like Tootoo are less likely to take a run at someone if Jody is somewhere in the vicinity. The Jackets really don't have that guy on the roster. Boll is great, but he isn't going to discourage anyone from taking a run at Huselius.

Bring up Mirasty for the January 13 game against the Avs!!

that's a lie. i have no problem with some form of instigator but at the end of the day if you dont have to answer the bell a lot of people dont have to answer to their actions. i think it should be tiered system of some sort.

boll/dorsett have kept tootoo in place. mirasty is a terrible hockey player. he is not on a two way deal. hes on a one way deal down in cuse, so the club would have to sign him to an entry level deal, i wouldnt get my hopes up. shelley wouldnt have been on the ice with juice.
