Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

CCI vent

Most CBJ fans wasnt a sniff of the playoffs?? We have a great fan base, incrediable arena/atmosphere, and excellent local TV & radio support. Every year, same story, same apologies and the same assurance this team is moving in the right direction. Ater seeing Brad Richards score 5 points in his Dallas debut, why did we not go after him, Whatever the cost!!

Teams that want to progress to the playoffs should be picking up major talent like this guy. We have PLENTY of cap room. No excuse, the Jackets totally screwed this one up.
you think 19% of next years budget should go to one player? what happens when you have nash, z and klesla heading into ufa and you have richards at 7.8m? is richards an 8m player today? in 3 years?

Long term no, to make the push for the playoffs yes, the revenue the CBJ would get from the playoffs.

I wanted to see the Richards deal happen as much as any fan. However, there were two problems:

One, Dallas threw in a goaltender, and we were wise not to. Especially if that deal meant PLC for Richards. No way.

Two, in the capped era, it's not just about getting money from the playoffs. It's about not having enough budget to sign good defensemen in the offseason, or being able to re-sign core players. If you have three 8m guys on the roster, you're running out of cap fast.

We've been down the road of overweight contracts (Federov), so in that sense I am more accepting of the fact that we didn't get Richards. It's disappointing, but I am not going to call out management for not getting it done.

This team is developing young talent and holding on to it. The front office isn't trading away the future, and if anything is doing a sound job of acquiring draft picks. We are an expansion franchise that's making real progress. This season has been a huge step forward -- we have the coach, the GM and most of the players we'll need for a deep run into the playoffs within the next few seasons. A few good off-season deals and this team will be a serious contender.

When you look at the losses that will keep the CBJ out of the playoffs, they're shootout losses, OT losses, one-goal losses, and many are home losses. The CBJ aren't getting skated out of the building night after night, which is perhaps more frustrating for a fan. We can see how close this team is to being exceptional.

Low-key Murray not easily cornered
More digger than star, forward's rise built on hard work

Andrew Murray

The loading dock in Nationwide Arena could double for Jay-Z's driveway in his MTV Cribs episode.
The dock is where Blue Jackets players park their BMWs, Maseratis, Range Rovers, etc., during practices and games.
But there amid the glitz is center/right winger Andrew Murray's ride -- a 2003 Honda Accord -- which could seriously use some pimpin'.

Blue Jackets notebook
Hitchcock set to unveil a 'top-secret' weapon?

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 3:00 AM
By Aaron Portzline

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Four days without a game has given Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock too much time to think.
It has given the Jackets' Western Conference opponents too much time to pull away in the standings, too. The Jackets are seven points out of the playoffs.
As a result, Hitchcock plans to work a new wrinkle into the game plan for the final 12 games.

Impressive 1st game for Richards; however, since acquiring him Dallas has gone 2 wins & 3 losses (i.e. losing record). Hockey is a team sport and it's all about the wins.

Put it this way, with the assets the Jackets acquired both with this trade deadline AND with the salaries coming off of the books (Feds and Foote primarily), look for Howson to sign at least one big name FA d-man and likely try to trade for a top flight centerman with one of the 1st rounders he has.

Richards would have been a nice addition, but that trade wasn't going to happen for a couple reasons, one of which is the position columbus finds itself in.

If they had 83 points instead of 73, chances are Norrena would be wearing the Lightning colors right now (at least I think they would have taken Norrena). But then you are stuck with Richards when there should be a chance to make a splash this offseason....

you think they would have traded back for freddy no?

he was in a bolts sweater not to long ago in the modin/norena for denis trade....

Considering where their goaltending has been all year long, I think they would have done it. He comes relatively cheaply, he's no where near as ancient as Hasek and it would have still cleared Richards off of their ledgerbook.

But that's history now.

ill rephrase it. tampa didnt want him. they wanted mason/brule/brassard or brassard/brule/klesla

would you give that up for a 27 year old centre signed for 3 years at 7.8 per?
richards has once only scored more than 25 goals-26 in 03-04
one time over 80 pts 91 in 05-06
hes only been a plus player 3 times, +2,+3,+14

the nash announcement should be public by now...

If they were actually in the playoffs at the time (meaning if they were in the east :sneaky: ), then yes, absolutely. This franchise hasn't had even a relatively good center in the middle of his prime and if they were in the playoffs, it was worth it IMO.

He should have been captain 2 years ago, but that's just me....

Nash named Blue Jackets' captain

Rick Nash, the Columbus Blue Jackets' all-time leader in goals, was named the team's captain on Wednesday.
Nash, 23, has spent his entire career in Columbus after the Blue Jackets took him with the first pick in the 2002 draft.
In 351 games with Columbus, the Ontario native has recorded 151 goals and 114 assists for 265 points. He ranks second on the team's all-time list in scoring and assists and is fourth in games played.
Nash has played in three straight All-Star games and in the 2003 was a finalist for the Calder Trophy, which is awarded to the league's top rookie.
