Every time I pull up to a pump in my car.

Correct. At that time, you pay highway use taxes. FOR YOUR CAR.

No there is a law against it, its called assalt. Just being an asshole is one thing, you are entitled to do that. It is the people that try and kill you, threaten your life or throw objects becasue they feel like they are being inconvienanced.

So write down their license plate number and make their lives a living hell.

Maybe 5% of the bikes do that. They should all follow the rules including stopping at red lights or they should get a ticket. That does not make them a speed bump.

If you say so.

We do move with the flow of traffic, it seems just not as fast as you would like.

If it's ok with you, I'd just like to sit back and savor that response for awhile.

I do not think that I am talking about riding at night with no lights.

No, but we are talking about the hazards of slow moving vehicles occupying the same space as high velocity vehicles, and in both cases, grossly out-weighed, too.

Dude, I'm partially on your side. I have no problem seeing highway use taxes that you and I pay for our cars used to create bike lanes. Love the bike trails and bike lanes. I think that's the solution. And I would pay good money to see a cop deal with someone who is throwing xit at bicyclers. Motorcyclists face similar obstacles. We have an unsolved homicide here in Georgia where a pickup deliberately ran down a motorcycle with a woman on it. Bastages oughta pay big time.

Back up traffic? When have you EVER seen that happen??? That is just an excuse to justify your attitude.

Um, how about every damn time there's a bike riding down a busy 2-4 lane road with a speed limit over 25... Sure, it may be legal, but Columbus roads are simply not designed (ie wide enough) to accomodate slower-than-cars bike riders in the normal flow of traffic. I don't care what some bureaucrat says the law is, I hate seeing a bike taking up a lane when there's a perfectly good (and often empty sidewalk) just to the side: and nothing makes me laugh like seeing a bike sitting in line at a stoplight when they could just take the crosswalk and beat all us drivers to their destination. Cops generally have better things to do than ticket bikes on sidewalks.

You see what we have to deal with out here? You are aware that I cannot by law use a sidewalk. Oh wait, you aren't.

Cars are just bullies period. You wouldn't get pissed by someone walking too slow on the sidewalk would you? Would you yell and scream and flip them off or even knock them off their feet? No, becasue you would end up with a mouth full of no teeth. There is ZERO difference.

I am all for making it work for both parties. But cars have no more right away than a bike does. Thats the facts.

Cars need to respect bikes right of way. Bikes need to act like cars and obey the laws. Its not that tough.

Actually, I stated pretty directly that I am aware of the law, and I still don't care. Columbus roads are not designed to accomodate us both at the same time, and it's the biker who will be in a bad situation when something goes wrong. I live near downtown and only ride my bike on sidewalks and bike trails because I'm not getting on the road with all those stupid drivers.

And yes, I would get pissed about someone walking too slow on the sidewalk if they were in my way: I'm a fast walker with places to be. :tongue2:

By law, motorist must share the road.
To ignore the law is irrational.

Bicyclist must use common sense and obey the laws of the road, also.

The treatment of bicyclist by motorist is irrational and unlawful.
But, when was the last time anyone even heard of a motorist being cited for harassment of bicyclist?

Bikers absolutely have the right to ride on the road. They should wear a helmet, abide by the laws, and stay VERY alert for their own safety. Heck, I wish everyone could bike to work. It would be much better on the environment.

I've lived in cities that are really biker-friendly. Tempe had a very wide bike lane almost everywhere. I wish every city were like that. I am scared to death to bike on the roads in Boston!
