It is virtually impossible to get out and away from traffic without being on some type of higher speed or dangerous road. Bikes are ignored by road planners, engineers and municipalities when it comes to bike lanes and access. Even though they are vehicles, they are not planned for when in fact they should be.

A single bike rider should never be in certain situations or they are bound to get hit. It sounds like the situation that you were describing was one of them. But, there are some 55mph roads I have ridden on with a group. Other than a highway, I would ride just about anywhere in a large group of bikes because we are visable.

I people would have a motcum of patience this would never be an issue. I have ridden in Europe and watched the riders in NY do it all day long. Drivers integrate and it works fine. The issue here isn't anything other than it pisses cars off to be "inconvienced" by a bike.

I would never dream of driving a bike on any busy road with cars traveling over 35 mph.

That's why they have bike paths.

If you are going to take the risk of riding in fast traffic, you have to be willing to deal with the consequences that come with such a decision.

Most drivers are ignorant of the laws regarding sharing the road with bicycles.
Of coarse there is always the guy on a bike going against the flow of traffic! :shake:

Maybe we, as bicyclist, could start informing people here of just what the laws are?

OK, so what you are saying is that bikes have the right to be there, bikes are the equal of cars, and just becasue people are stupid impatient ignorant redneck fucksticks we should be killed.

I am surmising here..

No that is not what I'm saying.

I'm saying, don't ride your bike on roads if there are idiots out there you have to constantly worry about.

Why not drive your car, if you don't have one, that's different.

Traffic Laws Apply to Bicycles
Every person riding a bicycle has the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities as persons driving cars. Every person riding a bicycle shall have all of the rights and be subject to the duties applicable to the driver of any other vehicle under the rules of the road. (RSA 265:143)

As a cyclist may I say FUCK YOU. I pay for the roads just like you do. If you don't like it, get on the fucking highway assholes. I have had shit thrown at me, been slugged, had doors opened, and had people try to kill me litterally. So before you all think that you are so tough and important behind the wheel of your cars, BIKES HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS CARS. Don't like it, write congress. Anyone want to tell me I should not be there, we can discuss in person if you like.

And Tao, can you be a bigger hypocrite??? You rant all fucking day about save the earth and you pimp bikes? If you don't walk the walk just shut the fuck up (half kidding). Just lost some respect there bro.

Ok so legally bikes have the same rights as cars. Own up to the inherent risks of riding on a four 45 mph roads. Just because it's legal doesn't mean you should do it. It would someone who's extremely foolhardy to ever think that biking down a road like that during rush hour is a good idea. You shouldn't get worked up over doing something stupid. Legal or not biking on high speed roads isn't a good idea. If you back up traffic during something like rush hour when people are worked up as it is it shouldn't come as a great shock people might get angry at you. I'm not saying it's right but that's what goes with the territory.

Dude thats insane thinking. I understand your point that you see that it is not worth the risk to you.

While a bit dramatic, I see bikers as just another minority that is being persicuted. I am not sure that certain groups would have achived equal status with that attitude. In fact you have to fight for your rights and that entails some risk.

Would you stop driving when carjacking was rampant even though idiots were stealing cars at red lights?

Of course I wouldn't but riding on an unprotected vehicle in speeding traffic isn't exactly a safe environment.

How do you know these people hit you on purpose?

Besides, motorcycles are dangerous enough, for some reason I don't even see them in my rear-view mirror half of the time.

Really? Roads are funded by highway use taxes collected mainly at retail gas and diesel pumps. So...when exactly do bicyclers pay highway use taxes?

Actually, bikes are allowed on highways, too. It's controlled access highways that prohibit bikes.

I refer you to your earlier comment above...if you don't like it, get off the road. (No, I am not saying assholes who do this are justified, but there's no law against being an asshole.)

And should be bound by the same laws and safety rules. Bikers like to weave through vehicles. That is illegal for cars to do, but not bikers? As a matter of safety principle, cars are expected to "move with the flow of traffic." Bikes cannot do that on roads that allow speeds in excess of 30 MPH.

If you want to be there on a bicycle, no one is stopping you. We also don't stop Amish buggies. The same stark black Amish buggies that get wiped out after dark when they're practically invisible, despite many repeated warnings to the Amish community about the hazards of being on the road at night.

Several times on High Street and Olentangy River Road. This is what pisses me off about bikes the most. Cyclists that on a 5 or 6pm on a friday ride down one of the lanes of traffic on a four lane 45mph road like car.

So if bikes follow the rules of the road how come bikers so frequently run red lights? It seems like following the rules of the road only occurs when it's convenient.

Every time I pull up to a pump in my car.

No there is a law against it, its called assalt. Just being an asshole is one thing, you are entitled to do that. It is the people that try and kill you, threaten your life or throw objects becasue they feel like they are being inconvienanced.

Maybe 5% of the bikes do that. They should all follow the rules including stopping at red lights or they should get a ticket. That does not make them a speed bump.
We do move with the flow of traffic, it seems just not as fast as you would like.

I do not think that I am talking about riding at night with no lights.

Dayton...your true colors are showing. You just do not like bikes in your way. Man up and admit it. You know they can be there, it just pisses you off.

PS You drive 45 on High Street? :)
