The douche who does the Michigan Podcast had some interesting thoughts on the topic such as claiming that the Big Ten was interested in the 4 AAU schools in the ACC, Georgia Tech, UVA, UNC, and Puke. Didn't think the conference was very interested in TCU and Baylor as religious, private schools, exception being Notre Dame. Even that might give pause - I'm thinking the inability of the state to look into the cherry picker incident might be a reason as no state school would have gotten off without an investigation. More interesting were his thoughts on Penn State - seems like the fighting Sanduskey's are interested in the ACC, especially if Clemson would bolt to the SEC. Their bitch with the Big Ten is being stuck in the same division as Ohio State and Michigan - I get that as having the conference's three best (historically) teams in one division has never made sense to me. But I wonder if they'd be willing to join an ACC without UNC, UVA, Ga. Tech, and Duke, or take the pay cut that would come from ACC football.

Of course they would. They just want to go back to their Eastern Independent days and have an easy path to national relevance without earning it. Not only would they take the pay cut, but they'd be delusional enough to think that their brand would make up for all the other losses. If they do bolt, I'd hope the B1G office would be on the phone to Pitt the next day.

Does UPitt fit the Academic mold of the B1G?
I'm not trolling ORD, I seriously know nothing about Pitt and it's academic reputation

As I understand it, playoff expansion can't happen without unanimous consent from the leagues. So it's probably DOA for a while.

Also the SEC pushing for expansion ASAP makes a lot more sense. Expansion before 2025-26 means ESPN has exclusive negotiation rights, and can low-ball compared to a bidding situation. It's a gift for the SEC's corporate overlords. And the money saved can go towards an even juicer SEC contract.

Enter Washington State's President:
https://www.mercurynews.com/2021/08...s-on-institutional-fit-and-revenue-potential/

“What the SEC has done is unify the other conferences in a way that nothing else could have, in terms of working together,” Schulz told the Hotline.

“A lot of people now are very concerned about the predatory nature of the SEC. More presidents are talking. There’s a lot of back and forth.”

ZOMG! Predatory! This sounds like serious stuff!!!

“After the Texas and Oklahoma news, there was some pushback and some thought that maybe we don’t need to expand. But the CFP still needs to expand to create more opportunities for more teams. There is more opportunity for Pac-12 schools with expansion with 12 teams than with four. Does it need tweaking? Perhaps. But I think there’s broad consensus that we need to move forward.

“I haven’t heard anyone in the Pac-12 footprint who thinks we shouldn’t expand.

On eve of College Football Playoff expansion talks, Big Ten's Kevin Warren steadfast that Power 5 champions should qualify

As the College Football Playoff management committee prepares to continue its discussions on Saturday about expanding the current four-team format, Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren told ESPN he remains steadfast in his belief that the Power 5 conference champions should automatically qualify for a spot in the future.

Saturday's meeting will be the seventh in-person gathering the 10 FBS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick have had since the proposed 12-team format was announced in June. Automatic bids remains one of the sticking points.

"It's just very important that we have the automatic qualifiers for the five conferences," Warren said on Friday. "It's just the demands of the schedule ... and I strongly believe that if you are crowned the Big Ten champion, that you should have an opportunity to participate for a national championship. ... I feel strongly about that as I stand here today."

Piss off, Gene. This is Gene --who's spent a lifetime going to bowl junkets, being taken on Winter cruises by them--attempting to look out for the bowls at the expense of Ohio State and the other B1G schools. Nobody is going to die in a December game in Columbus or Madison any more than they do in Chicago or Green Bay. Fuck, GS and fuck the bowls.

And so, Gene, how is it that Southern and West Coast gentlemen like Bart Star, Terry Bradshaw, Fran Tarkenton, Bobby Layne, Frank Gifford, Aaron Rogers, Bret Favre, Y.A. Tittle, Sammy Baugh, et al managed to have fine careers despite being forced to play football in late November and December in the impossible winter conditions north of the Mason - Dixon line?

Just admit you've been kindly treated by bowl reps to support their desire to keep college footballs most important games planted in the south and west coast.
