That is true for THIS season, it wasn't for last. Even in a normal season, no one was beating the '20 Bama team. But I think OSU could've won the NC in '19. This year OSU, Clemson and Bama are all on level ground with question marks in a number of position groups. And the question marks are due to experience and not talent. Coaching and development will win out this year, and not facing a slip up against a team they should beat. Because I believe all 3 will be in some close games against teams they shouldn't, IMO.

I see the fighting Kiffins and UNC being the possible slip ups for Bama and Clemson, respectively. The Buckeye get past Minnesota and Oregon it should be good but IU will come in fired up though.

IMO it is not usually the recent close-calls that get a team. It is sometimes a similar situation (road game out west, anyone?) but not usually the same team.

There are the rare cases where an over-matched coach can run into someone who "has his number" (Earle Bruce vs Wiscy and Illinois at various times), but I doubt that turns out to be the case with Saban or even Swinney.

What I would look out for is a talented team that underperforms most of the year, then plays out of their minds against the big dog. There are several teams in both conferences that might fit that bill; but for each of them individually, it is more likely that they get housed. But taken as a whole, it is likely that one of them jumps up and gives somebody a game.

Teams like Pitt and Syracuse are the ones that usually get to Clemson

Same with the Purdue/Iowa types of the world with Ohio State

Not the ones youd really suspect.

This was what I was hinting at, teams like these. @LovelandBuckeye, those teams you mentioned are the ones I actually think Bama and Clemson won't let them sneak up on them. Saban sleeps on Ole Miss every so often but not every year. And the way that the media has built up UNC, Dabo will have those boys ready. But Clemson almost lost to BC last year, granted Lawrence was out, but they still had a ton more talent. Those are the teams that can sneak wins in. And with young QBs playing on the road, that's where the worry will lie. Bama plays UF, aTm and Miss St on the road, CLemson plays NC State, Syracuse, Louisville and fake USC on the road. But Clemson's season could be in jeopardy if they can't get past UGA in game 1, and lose an in conference game. But, I do agree with @LovelandBuckeye when it comes to OSU. Minny and Oregon are our biggest 2 games, I don't see OSU sleeping on IU this year, and I predict us destroying IU in a semi-home game. And OSU has passed up the Pedsters, honestly, outside of those amazing catches by Dotson, the 2020 Ped St game isn't really close.

Like the NFL playoff format, we might see more than one team from a conference (division) make the postseason, which would allow for more than just the conference champion to be involved.

It would also mean that, looking back, teams like the 2004 Auburn Tigers and 2003 USC Trojans, arguably the best teams in the nation who still didn’t make the BCS title game, would have had a chance to play for a championship.

As an aside, beyond giving a shot to teams that lost early (who are often already blue chip programs), we’d probably also see a host of new national champs, or at least teams with reasonable shots who would win a Playoff game or two: Boise State, Utah, UCF (in the expansion scenario).

We can harken back to the absolute beauty of the NCAA Basketball Tournaments. Teams benefit from scheduling challenging out-of-conference games early, even if they lose, because one loss does not make or break a team’s shot at the post-season. Expanding the Playoff is good for college football because it means we’ll find the best team.

Clemson football rumors: SEC in ‘serious contact’ with Tigers

Clemson football fans have been anxiously awaiting to see what might be in store for the Tigers in the near future following the massive conference realignment rumors that are taking place across the landscape of College Football.

Everything all started with reports that Texas and Oklahoma were considering leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. In less than 24 hours, those reports have become all but confirmations and the expectation at this point is that the Longhorns and Sooners will be giving their notice to the Big 12 next week and filing the application to join the SEC, as well.

With the additions of Texas and Oklahoma, the SEC will be up to 16 teams but one report says the conference doesn’t want to stop there.

Barstool Sports’ Jack McGuire reports that the SEC has been in ‘serious contact’ with Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan and Florida State about leaving their respective conferences to join the league. The ultimate goal? To have a true 20-team mega conference.

We still take anything we see with a grain of salt right now, but there’s no doubt that the SEC is trying to become a mega power and it would make sense for it to reach out to four of the top brands who are not currently in the league upon the addition of Texas and Oklahoma.

At this point, we can say from the Clemson football side that there hasn’t been anything linked to the Tigers being interested in leaving the ACC, but that is all subject to change.

Probably good advice....
