Wow. B1G seems to be trying to submarine these talks.

I just think the Big Ten is not going to roll over and give the Southern teams everything they want: i.e. lose the Rose Bowl tie-ins AND have all the games played in the warm weather teams' backyards.

If that's the conditions that they are going to attempt and force in order to get a playoff, then Delaney is completely right in telling them to geabd.

I agree with this, so if that's why they're doing what they're doing, more power to them. I can't stand having to always play these guys in their back yard for the bowl game.

Do want to see cold weather, home games for Big Ten teams. That might be worth losing the B10-P10 Rose Bowl.

Absolutely. Can you imagine if our last national title game was played in Dayton instead of New Orleans? Then LSU would have found out what it was like to play a road game for the national championship.

Are you sure its the B1G that are trying to submarine the talks? Seemed like Delany & Scott liked the campus semi-final option.

Just talking conspiracy.... But if I was the SEC and didn't want on-campus home games I would prefer the Bowls. So you throw the B1G & PAC a bone by giving the Rose special consideration... but its really more for you.

AND... if I was the ACC/Big12/Big East/"Non AQ" that Rose Bowl scenario means you have better access for the Championship game with the B1G & PAC champs tied to the Rose Bowl semi.

Because I can see the bitching... well #3 Ohio State only beat #10 Oregon... but #4 Alabama beat #2 Oklahoma in the Sugar... so that at-large SEC team deserves to be in the title game to play #1 LSU.

I really like the semifinals being hosted at the #1 and #2 school sites. It helps make the regular season more important than the other scenarios, and I think it improves tOSU's chances of winning the Title Game.

The scenario where the Rose Bowl still gets the B1G & Pac Ten Champions, and there are still two other semifinal games prior to choosing two teams for the Title Game - what a mess that could create - it's basically 3 semi-final games to determine 2 finalists. Some people act like having that settled by a committee would be OK, when it would would simply be a disaster that opens up the possibilities of bias, cheating, and outright illegal actions to attempt getting your conference's team selected.

I'd rather have the host site semi-finals than preserve the B1G-PAC Rose Bowl, but I don't really believe that Delany feels the same way.

Any proposal should include passing a written, timed test before anyone gets to participate in the bowl game. When you've got guys getting a 4 on the Wonderlic, that guy isn't a "student" athlete.

Why do you hate the SEC?

His assimilation is complete.

Are you saying Dayton, OH has less entertainment options than New Orleans? Less corruption? YES!
Saying Dayton has less entertaining corruption, certainly. :p

( I have only visited beautiful Dayton once - back in my nuclear power industry days. I went to the Clinton and Zimmer plants on a job search in early 82, got neither, and wound up at the Waterford III site in Taft, Louisiana. )

I just had this talk myself. The Rose Bowl is cool but I would much rather have a game in Columbus.

I would rather #3 Ohio State play AT #2 Alabama than have the Rose Bowl game between #3 Ohio State and #8 UCLA have ANY impact on who gets to play in the national championship game. I'm a traditionalist, and I love what the Rose Bowl used to be. But it isn't that any more. The Rose Bowl, the Big Ten, and the Pac-10 sold out in 1998 when they joined the rest of the college football world to create the BCS. For better or worse, the Rose Bowl isn't the same. When you win eight Big Ten championships (four outright) in ten years, and only go to ONE Rose Bowl, it's obviously not the same. In 2006, the Rose Bowl was the consolation prize, for crying out pants.

Besides, if the Rose Bowl tries to stay intact, it would hurt Big Ten teams' chances of hosting a play-off game. If Indiana finishes at #2, instead of hosting a play-off game, they have to go play in the Rose Bowl first? I thought we wanted the warm-weather teams to have to play in the north?

The college football world needs to go all-in or stay out. If it's not a playoff, fine by me. If they want a playoff at all, don't pee in a cup and try to sell lemonade.
