My objection wouldn't be so much that the structure of the ancient Olympics differed from that of any proposed college football playoff. It would be that i) the ancient Olympics weren't the post-season to some organized regular season, thus they aren't relevant, and ii) citing a single religious/athletic festival doesn't exactly establish the received wisdom of millennia. But enough of the archaeology. It's an interesting conversation, potentially, but not really on-topic.knapplc;2121874; said:Anyway, BKB is right about Greek wrestling "tournaments," which were similar - but not the same as - modern playoffs. You could draw up a bracket of these competitions that resembles a modern bracket. Often they were seeded by lot and as often winners were reseeded, but this was not always the case. Is it exactly the same? No. But it is similar enough for the accuracy level required of an internet convo.
