I'm not really even that concerned about it happening to Auburn again. ( They got a mountain to climb before they're back in the picture) I just want to prevent it from happening to another team.
I know that, my point is I suspect the fact that it did happen to Auburn made it color your view of the post-season much more strongly than it would have had the exact same thing happened to, say, Nebraska.

What's wrong with upsets? They make sports exciting.

They do when they're meaningful - like USC's losses to UCLA, Stanford, and Oregon State the last 3 years.

Those upsets would mean a helluva lot less if USC ended up in a playoff at the end of the year. Especially to fans outside the Pac 10.

Exactley but it's not quite as bad, with the BCS a team can go undefeated and still not get their rightful shot at the title. But with this system the #9 team in the country will be on the outside looking in. Which team would you prefer be screwed over. An undefeated or one loss major or small conference team, or a 2-3 loss one?

If Ball St. would have gone undefeated last year the very well might not have been in the top 8, but do you seriously think they deserved a shot at the title? People look for some form of consistency from a team before they are taken seriously, last year was the first year Ball St. was impressive this decade.

They aren't creating gripes they are essentially transferring them. Would rather have a #3 or #4 team that was a few votes away from being a top 2 team get screwed or some #9-10 team that would be hard pressed to make a BCS bowl game get screwed? When it comes down to it someone will probably get screwed, I would just rather have it be a team barely scratching the top 10.

I have admitted NUMEROUS times that the playoff system isn't perfect, I just think it keeps some really really quality teams from getting boned.

I laugh at this...so the playoff system IS still a popularity contest. No thanks.

They work fine?

Are you serious? Georgetown beat Villanova two out of three times in 1984-85. Villanova was an 8 seed, Georgetown was a clear Number 1, not just seed.. but number 1 in the nation....

that's not "working fine"

Then why even have a BCS title game if it is so obvious who the clear #1 team is every year in college football? Just crown a champion after the regular season is over.

Yes, but they would mean a lot if they happened in a playoff, which BKB seems to be against.

How could there possibly be an upset of that magnitude (Stanford was about a 40-point underdog) in a playoff system with 8 teams?

Unless, that is, TSUN was in the playoffs and they included lower division teams like Appalachian State?

Wow - powerful argument for changing a system that isn't broken

BTW: Do you still believe that the pro-playoff crowd vastly outnumbers the anti-playoff crowd? If so, why are none (ok, maybe one) of your multitude coming to your defense?

A few days ago he guessed that the proponents had about a 5-1 majority. One of the TSUN fans chimed in that it was more like 25-1. He may be re-thinking that estimate.

Iit seems like people who are all for a playoff outnumber those who aren't like 5 to 1.

It's probably closer to 25 to 1.

It bothers me, and I don't like Auburn at all, other than when they gave us this gem:

That'd be fine by me.
How could you choose fairly between the top-3 last year?
