College Football Playoff (2016-2017 Season)

OHIO STATE WILL BE A TOP THREE TEAM, YET STILL DOESN'T TRULY CONTROL ITS OWN DESTINY – A LOOK AT BIG TEN EAST SCENARIOS

Michigan (9-1, 6-1), Ohio State (9-1, 6-1) and Penn State (8-2, 6-1) are all very much alive in this race and to try and predict how this will finish is a fool's errand at this point in time.

This graphic outlines all of the possible outcomes:

With Michigan's loss to Iowa Saturday night, Penn State's position solidified, while Ohio State needs to win out, and get some help. Had Michigan defeated the Hawkeyes, Ohio State was in if they won out and Penn State wins out, which seemed likely since the Nittany Lions have remaining games against Rutgers and Michigan State.

Now, the Buckeyes need to win out – and need a bit of help if they want to win the Big Ten East.

However, Ohio State may become the first team to ever crack the final four for the playoff without winning its conference championship should the Bucks and Nittany Lions both win out.

Lucky today that Clemson and especially Washington loss that helps but the winner of Clemson/Louisville will likely jump us come final rankings if either still has 1 loss.

It looked like if Ohio State won it they would be a lock for #2 seed with Clemson and Washington losses today but thanks to that choking team up North now that is gone.

Would prefer not to be #4 seed would like to wait until Championship game to face Alabama.

Now might be lucky to get just #4 seed.

Will the committee keep Ohio State at #2 while other 1 loss teams win their championship games ?

Will they put a 2 loss championship game winner over Ohio State ? Will the Big 10 get 0 teams now ?

So many questions. Should never have lost to Penn State after being up 21-7 late but what can you do.

So frustrated right now.

Best case scenario is we make playoff while avoiding Big 10 championship and a physical-ass Wisconsin team. I'm not that concerned about beating Wisconsin, but it's a blood-bath we don't need if we can avoid it.

We move to #2 tonight, and we have the biggest fanbase in CFB. We win out and we are at worst #3, no matter what.

I was rooting for Iowa tonight for this exact scenario. Would love rolling into playoff with a few extra weeks of rest.

So you think the committee will give us Alabama status by allowing us in without winning the conference as well?

If Nebraska had lost, Wisconsin could afford to lose another game, beat the shit out of PSU in the conference game.

Then the BIG winner would be a 3 loss team. Ohio State would definitely have gotten in.

But seeing how this didn't and won't happen, its all moot. All we can do is win and win BIG against Sparty and scUM and if we do, we have a shot of getting in.

I see it as this on Tuesday.

1. Bama
2. OSU
3. Clemson
4 Louisville

HOWEVER after championship week in 3 weeks if we win out but don't play in the title game i see it as this as a final

1. BAMA
2. Clemson
3. OSU
4. Wisconsin
5. Louisville
6. Oklahoma

There's just too many quality wins, we will have beaten the big 12 champ, and I think Washington will lose to WSU.

I just don't see us being left out if we win out

Ooopsey!
We got a gift today! 3 spots opened up!
( Al) we need to do is keep winning. Be in the mix of 4 teams.

The PSU offensive line is a mess(The Lions are down four tackles for various reasons — Andrew Nelson, Brendan Mahon, Noah Beh and Paris Palmer.
Left guard Ryan Bates moved to left tackle when Palmer (right knee) left early against IU. Chasz Wright is starting for Mahon, injured in the Iowa win. Nelson is done for the year with a bad knee.)
If they face Wiscy they will lose.
So, does that get Wiscy with 2 loses in the mix of 4?

And even if for some reason they get in that doesn't keep us out because of.......Strength of schedule.
I think if we win the next 2 we're in.

The committee is charged with putting the best 4 teams in the playoff. If we win out , and winning big couldn't hurt, saying "tOSU is one of the best four teams in the country" would be an easily defensible statement regardless of what any other team does.
Agreed, plus it keeps them from being pidgeon holed and having to take conference champions. Add to what tOSU brings money wise and its almost a certainty

If Washington wins out it's hard to see the committee letting both Wisconsin and OSU in. I think OSU would be safe in that scenario but you never know.
