Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

Everyone needs to keep in mind this is the same asshole that said college football fans wouldn't notice a difference in the game when he pushed the NCAA to change the clock rules so the clock began running after kick-offs.

Dickhead.

The funny part is, all of the juggalos that re-emerged on my twitter feed today. Some of them even implied that this changed their standing as a football program in the state of Ohio... as if the arrival of this guy somehow made Ohio State not Ohio State anymore, and UC not UC anymore. C'mon.
Tuberville's record since his undefeated season:
54-33 (.621). In fact, his career record, 130-77 (.628) isn't all that impressive. Averages out to something around 8-5. So, if they're thinking this big-eared goof is gonna take them somewhere they haven't been, they've been spiking their Faygo a little too hard.

I believe it was NFBuck that said "this [censored] sounds like he was named after a Dr. Seuss character."

Indeed. Thomas Tuberville.

I still can't believe this dork smacked a man on the sidelines.

Ohio State fans just better realize that Tuberville will be marking the game against Ohio State on his calendar. It's going to be the biggest game of his career. Cincy fans are going to be lining up in their juggaloes gear to signal the end of Ohio State's dominance as the only BCS school in the state.

Mark my words. They will put more effort into this than any of your realize and you are giving them too little due. Cincy is now much more than a basketball school. Your days of dominance at Ohio State are over.

Speaking of Lil' Brother type schools, South Florida ended up grabbing Willie Taggart from Western Kentucky. In his first press conference, he went on about how USF should be the first choice of athletes from the Tampa Bay area, and started listing area codes (813, 941...). Left off the list: 727 (Pinellas County), which is the area code of the million or so people on the west side of the Bay.

That's kind of a big screwup. They're off to a good start down there.

The lesson other college coaches should take to heart regarding Bobby Petrino is:

It is perfectly fine to screw your old AD, screw your former players, screw your young vixen, screw your old owners, screw the NFL... Nobody gives a shit about that. The formers will howl, but no one really cares. It's how the business works for better or worse.

But screw your current AD?

You're finished.

And that's why no AD is initiating the call.

Petrino will eventually land another gig, maybe even this year. There are credible rumors out there that he may end up at Arkansas State this year. I'd be surprised if it comes to pass, but it is a possibility. He would be a good fit at Colorado.

A smart, hot-seat, head coach in need of offensive help should snap him up as OC. He'd get one, maybe two years out of him, but that might be enough to save his bacon so to speak.

My initial reaction was that Cincinnati had pulled a coup and that he might be a better hire (relatively speaking) than the ones made by most of the SEC schools that were searching for coaches.

Then my thoughts went to, what the heck is wrong at Texas Tech. UC is a step down in nearly every respect.

Then I thought, if UC can shake this guy loose from Texas Tech, why aren't mid- and lower-tier B1G schools able to make better hires like this? UC has all the same disadvantages, and many more to go with it.

Then I remembered Ron Zook. This has that kind of vibe to me and I'm glad he didn't end up at a place like Illinois or Minnesota.

He's a name that people recognize, so it's a PR win for UC and their athletic department. It may even lend them enough cachet for a short time to get their ticket punched into a big-boy conference if the dominoes fall soon enough. In the long term though, I don't see it working out as well as any of their last few hires.

Given the state of UC football after being kicked in the nuts by mass defections from the Big East, being rejected for membership in the ACC, and Jones resigning, this is kind of a BFD for the Bearcats. Tuberville is no Urban Meyer, and only time will tell if he can "take UC up a level" like Tuberville said he wanted to during the press conference last night. But for the moment, this looks like a home run for Cincinnati.

It's definitely a PR victory for UC. I've just backed off my initial reaction that this would be a football victory too. I guess it should be taken into account though - with nobody else of consequence left in the Big East, getting to 8-9 wins and a conference championship should be child's play.

Would Colorado really be above hiring the coach from Navy and running the Triple Option?

Question might be, is the Navy coach above going to Boulder?

Given the pulse of most Georgia Tech fans, they would pay for a new car and all of the moving costs if CU would take Paul Johnson and his offense.
