Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

If the keep him a year, imma guess it is related to trying to go all in on Harbaugh for the next year so that when his contract is up, it may be a smoother transition. Ya know, head coach in waiting kinda thing... But rather than being an assistant, the HCiW is in the NFL.

It takes balls as weighty at Sonehenge or the arrogance of a *ichigan *an to think that may work.

So Nebraska fires Pellini, and will owe him $7mil
But scUM is sitting on Hoke in order to save $1mil

My guess is they think Harbaugh won't talk to them until NFL season/playoffs are over anyway... so they can afford to wait while all the better college coaches are hired. And once again they'll be stuck with plan F -- Hoke.

FWIW, I'm guessing Harbaugh will be the coach of the Oakland Raiders next year:

Report: Harbaugh could land contract extension with 49ers
Harbaugh has one year remaining on his contract with the 49ers, who are 7-5 and third place in the NFC West, and has refused extension offers in the past.

Jim Harbaugh's Wife Wants to Stay in Bay Area in Case of 49ers Firing
The Raiders are likely to pay big money for a big name head coaching candidate and Harbaugh would be the most qualified of the group of names as he has the most recent success of any big name coach who has been attached to Oakland so far. Owner Mark Davis is prepared to open up the pocketbook for a proven head coach, so if Harbaugh is indeed fired for not getting the Niners to the promised land there will be plenty of focus on what the Raiders will do when it comes to trying to lure the current San Francisco head coach across the Bay this offseason.

According to the BTN special after the Eichorst presser, Nebraska had recently renewed Pelini's staff for 2015 so could be on the hook for as much as $12m.

Yeah, the $$$ is there, because the school is notoriously cheap in years past.

I can't see Coach JT coming here at all, but I sure as hell would welcome the guy. I still don't think he'd ever coach against you guys, no matter how good the money was, just my opinion.

I've been pimping David Shaw's name out there. I love the style of offense the guy puts on the field. I still don't think, overall, that our Defense is that bad. The scheme does work, if the coaching staff is disciplined - and the players are the same.

Could you imagine Shaw's Stanford Offense with Bo Pelini's WELL PLAYED defense? Man, that would be something.

Or just another instance of the dumbest fan base in America at work, depending on your perspective.

Jim Tressel said he never plans to coach again
“I do not wake up in the morning and say I wish I was coaching," Tressel said. "Sometimes I read the paper and say I am glad I am not coaching. But on Saturdays or Sunday afternoons during playoff games it is exciting and I may yell ‘Call a time out!’ But I do not foresee any interest in coaching. I have got more important things to do. Not that it (coaching) is unimportant.”

Sean Connery made the phrase "never say never again" popular; however, I think it applies here with Tressel. Jim Tressel landed the perfect job as YSU president and he knows it. I'd be totally shocked to hear he would resign for the Nebraska head coaching position.
