Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

Hoke is a certainty.

Wilson is likely, due only to Hoosier stupidity (which is nearly boundless).

Beckman has improved his team's record each year he's been there. Therefore I think he's relatively safe.

Pelini I have no clue, but suspect he may be suffering from JCA (John Cooper Atrophy) and therefore on life support.

This is *ichigans 1994 imo. Its not an exact analogy but the way they have mishandled previous coaching changes is going to impact this one.

They have to be real careful with another coaching search, they can't afford another cluster fuck which means they almost have to be certain they have Harbaugh in the bag or they can't afford the gamble on firing Hoke.

If they fire Hoke with no Harbaugh guarantee and are seen settling for another plan B guy then they are in a real bad spot. The new guy will be #4 in 7 years...elite coaches don't want to go to a place that fires coaches like that and if you are scUM then your non-Harbaugh fall back guy just became your head coach for the next decade.

If he somehow wins, and lets face it he's come damn close twice now, they will keep him imo

Just spouting some opinions and some schadenfreude from thinking through the corner they have painted themselves into with 2 bad coaching hires in a row (they are Notre Dame with different helmets)

Wilson really depends on how much of a mulligan they're willing to give him for the QB debacle. On one hand, 4th string QB. On the other, why couldn't he hang onto either of the kids who transferred in the Summer window? It would be stupid ala Minnesota firing Mason though. Wilson has recruited above their record and knows how to run that offense at least.
Beckman is in a similar position to Wilson w/how much leeway they want to give him. Going from 0 wins to 1 win to 2 (maybe 3) wins... it's a stretch to call that improvement. Illinois went 2-6 before Beckman. Unlike Wilson he has nothing to hang his hat on and it's not like the recruiting is there to give some hope.
Hazell... just don't see how that's going to work either, but I guess he still has at least one more year.
Pelini... he pulled himself out with the bowl game last year. Does it work again this year? Will he make it to the bowl game? How many lives does 9win Pelini have?

The problem with Pelini is his teams are schizophrenic. I don't think I've ever seen a program lose as many games by big margins and still finish with somewhat respectable records. Great defensive mind, not good at building a mentally tough team.

Pelini- gone
Hoke- sure to be gone

And Illinois announces Beckman is back for 2015. Like I said, I'm not sure they or anyone even cares at that school anymore. Terrible.
Huh? He's progressed every year there. 2-10, then 4-8, and now 6-6 and bowl eligible. Luckily Michigan didn't follow suit and give Rich Rod a 4th year. He only did the exact same thing, got fired, and now has Ari-freaking-Zona in the PAC 12 championship and an outside shot at the final 4.

Good point. Winning 3 of 5 definitely helped his cause to end the year.
