Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

Not all schools are Tejas... for every Tejas that milk as much money as they can there are 20 Temple's that basically just killed scholarships for a buncha other sports to keep football going. Most schools lose money even on football.

Yeah, but if Texas pays Saban $12mil per, every school will be raising coaches salaries as well, eventually. It's also kinda silly to include the Temple types in that discussion. In reality, there are about 40-60 schools that operate on an entirely different level than the others.

But back to Saban...holy shit! $12mil a year?!

You say 40-60 .. I say 20 a most operate the way OSU & Tejas do, in the black with no help from the school. In terms of stupidly spending money on football yeah 40-60 is a good number....

But when you trim the fat, ie the non AQ schools that snag a BCS bid and the big money that goes with it, profits for the bottom half of my 40-60 would see more cash. If they were to schedule each other only...Minnesota could charge three times as much for season tickets that include Bama, Oregon, and Clemson, than they could for the FCS teams they schedule now.

Eh, I'm not familiar with Shaw's history, but Stanford isn't even close to being on the same level as tOSU or Texas, imo. That's not to say he would leave, but it's not ridiculous to think it's possible.
Oh, no no no. But Stanford and Shaw seem to be a perfect marriage. He's already reportedly turned down an offer from USC and overtures from the NFL. He's spoken repeatedly about how much he loves the Palo Alto area. I realize that has been no barometer of staying put in the past, but I'd be willing to bet Shaw is still at Stanford in 10 years.

Is he a Stanford alum? Is he from Palo Alto? I don't know enough about him to argue. But if he's ambitious at all, Texas would be far more appealing. Not to mention a...what... $9mil raise?

I think it's just Texas/UT egotism. He's the best, so god damn it they deserve him and how could he possibly turn them down.

Personally, I think the Texas job is a hell of a lot better on paper than in reality. You have ridiculous expectations where they literally expect multiple championships in the first few years despite having won only one in the previous forty. You have the most powerful and influential boosters intimately involved in the football program (and buddies with Your predecesor) expecting you to bring the entire team down to their ranches every Summer. Crazy time obligations for the LHN. Trustees who meddle in the football program. The job honestly seems like a nightmare and not worth any extra money it might bring.

And you have to wear that ugly burnt orange...
