Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

What is the logic in pursuing Saban from the Texas POV? Is a coach in his 60's really your long term solution?

Anyone citing past history as the reason UW is the #2 school behind USC in the PAC should buy stock in buggy whips.
...and Missouri is a football power. The 15 minute attention span produces a severely limited view of the world.

I think it's just Texas/UT egotism. He's the best, so god damn it they deserve him and how could he possibly turn them down.

Personally, I think the Texas job is a hell of a lot better on paper than in reality. You have ridiculous expectations where they literally expect multiple championships in the first few years despite having won only one in the previous forty. You have the most powerful and influential boosters intimately involved in the football program (and buddies with Your predecesor) expecting you to bring the entire team down to their ranches every Summer. Crazy time obligations for the LHN. Trustees who meddle in the football program. The job honestly seems like a nightmare and not worth any extra money it might bring.

DOH ... Tejas Mouthpiece gets shot down again

Mack Brown has denied a report that he will step down as Texas' coach.

Tim Heitman/USA TODAY SportsAccording to sources, Mack Brown's future at Texas may be tied to a board of regents meeting Thursday concerning the future of UT president Bill Powers.

Brown, who was recruiting on Tuesday, refuted a report by Orangebloods.com that cited high-level sources stating he would step down after 16 years as the Longhorns' coach.

So does Texas have to fire the President to get rid of Brown?

That's a lot bigger than the Mack Brown situation. Perry is essentially trying to ruin the University of Texas by turning it into a $10K diploma mill while creating a large for-profit online arm that would conveniently put a lot of cash in the pockets of some clouted up cronies. Powers has been fighting him tooth and nail because he rightly recognizes that it would end the University of Texas as a serious, national flagship university, drive away scores of top faculty and probably result in getting the boot from the AAU. Powers has maintained a thin edge on the board of trustees, but it wouldn't be above the Perry contingent to use the football coaching situation as further gasoline on the fire to get rid of Powers.

Again, just another reason why this job is not what UT people think it is.

FIFY but your right on... the one thing you gotta keep in mind is that all the legislature is with Power including the AG(future Gov)

On the way home Chip was still insisting it was going to happen within 48hrs. Insisting his source was high high up.. It will be interesting.

@ ORD_BUCKEYE per Chip the regents meeting is to smooth out the working relationship between them and Powers.
Side note thoughts on Powers and whether or not tOSU should look at him for the next president
