Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

I know personally of a tenured prof with big grant connections who lost half her pension in the last year thanks to cuts. Shes moved on to another school as a result. UW is not a place where you can drop tons on a fb coach when the faculty is being fed a shit sandwich. Walker is killing the goose that produced a good many golden eggs.

How does Wiscy fund pensions for Professors? Another sham system like social security where the current contributions fund previous obligations?

Well, I don't know about the specifics, but the university has undergone cuts, much like many other colleges across the country. Then there was the battle over collective bargaining that took place here in 2011 that no doubt had an impact on UW.

But I don't know how much impact this has on the athletic department, since I'm fairly certain it's separately funded.

Bucky,

Does UW have the big name boosters/sugar daddy that many other universities have that can come in and write a $5 million dollar check to buy out a big name coach?

I must say I have never heard of a "man behind the curtain" at UW except for maybe Herb Kohl.

Not as far as I'm aware of. That's another problem: the higher-ups at UW have been pulling back the reins on the athletic department recently.

Coachingsearch is floating the rumor that hazell will target John Peterson to replace Bolls at Purdue. My head just exploded.

Perhaps the guy he should have hired in the first place. I remember people here being optimistic when he was hired, thinking that he might exert some influence over Bollman or may eventually take over for him here. When he was brought in, he was viewed a competent o-line coach. His o-line at Fredo was outperforming Ohio State's at the time.

No idea where to put this, but this seemed the most suitable place given he's the new coach at Texas Tech. I really don't know what to think about this, other than, I wouldn't want my head coach to be my best friend.

I don't really see anything wrong with his approach. High energy, stays positive, constantly giving feedback. I'm sure there's a guy on the staff whose job it is to be the hardass. Just think of Kingsbury as the SDI rather than the 3rd hat.

Regardless your post made me think of...

True enough, but I just wouldn't want the nice guy figure to be the head coach is all. I really have no problem with him or his style, although some of that would probably get annoying after a while. He's very fortunate to already have a head coaching gig this early in his coaching career (Real life too, he's only 33). I'll always remember the shellacking we put on him and Texas Tech back in '02. I guess I was unfortunate because my SDI was the meanest SOB of the bunch. He never quarter-decked anyone himself, but he did more than enough collective punishment & other assorted things  If ever there was a more fitting time for that song, I couldn't possibly think of one.

This is different, "don't fire the coach fire the band director"......

Forget the Longhorns, OU fans are angry at their band director

| When Texas and Oklahoma meet Saturday for the 108th edition of the Red River Rivalry, fans on both sides of the Cotton Bowl will arrive disgusted with what they've seen on the field this year. The disgruntled Longhorns are calling for the firing of their longtime head coach, Mack Brown. The frustrated Sooners are agitating for the ouster of -- their band director? That's right. The Pride of Oklahoma band, known for tormenting opposing fans by playing "Boomer Sooner" after seemingly every positive play, has now attracted the ire of its own. For months, fans have called for the removal of first-year band director Justin Stolarik. Detractors passed out fliers before one game imploring fans not to cheer during performances. And a group of OU alumni has pooled $600 to rent a billboard near Fair Park this weekend to call attention to their displeasure. Stolarik's opponents say he isn't qualified for the job, almost ruined the band's pregame routine and has failed to live up to its proud standards. "The performances are lackluster, they lack energy, they lack enthusiasm and they are boring," said Nick Nicholson, who played tuba in the band in the late '80s and early '90s. "It's like watching paint dry." The opposition to Stolarik began to escalate this summer when a video of a summer practice was posted on the band's alumni Facebook page. The clip showed several possible changes to the band's traditional pregame routine and an unpolished sound.

They should be angry at their head coach.
