Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

Dana Holgorsen has a buyout of $11.3m. He's got at least one more year, probably two.
$11.3 million? Looks like Big Holg's still above the law! It's a great feeling.

Another example of a school going full retard to get the "next big innovative offensive mind" anchored to their program. Call it CWD (Charlie Weis Disease). Take a guy with no HC experience at any level who has put up some MTV numbers as a college OC or had some success in the pros as an Assistant, and throw enough $ at them that they can't leave and you can't ever get out from under them (in CW's case, physically). It's sort of anti-retread disease, where instead of bringing in someone with experience you take a huge risk on a guy with some curb appeal but no real measurables for the job you are hiring them for. Sorta like...Brandon Weeden as an NFL player, maybe :shake:

Probably no coincidence that they're linked.

Holgorsen got his deal after going 10-3 and annihilating Clemson in their bowl in 2011. They paid Bill Stewart something around $1.6m to leave and Holgorsen worked the entire 2011 campaign and well into fall camp of 2012 without a contract. They finally settled on a 6-year deal starting at $2.3m. His side of the buyout is $2m, their side $11.3m because the buyout language for "termination by convenience" covers the entire base contract.

Both he and his agent saw first hand what they did to Bill Stewart.

Smart move on their part. WVU is one of those programs that think they should be big time, but lack the recruiting base, history, resources, or gimmick to do it. The best they can hope for is to find another DickRod. But, moving on from the powderpuff Big East makes that unlikely. They should just look for another Don Nehlen...a guy who won't embarrass you, but will only make you nationally relevant for a year every decade. They may have had that with Stewart (RIP).

Was it Stewart who was leaking stories that Holgorsen was drinking and gambling? Or was it the other way around?
