Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

The letter of agreement is nine pages. That is enough verbiage to give any lawyer worth their salt grounds for interpreting things in each respective side's favor. And I have no idea how Florida handles issues of estoppel/reliance/acceptance, etc. Both parties actions seem to indicate a willingness to be bound by the terms and conditions contained in the agreement. It's not like either side can say that FSU did not hold Willie out as the FSU Coach. For a long time. Willie will get paid. Maybe not the 18 million, but a nice pay day. And for all we know, Willie's agent may have thought the uncertainty of not formalizing the contract favored his client in a situation like this. Damn lawyers!

And in mid-major news, Mike Bobo is out at Colorado State

Mike Bobo has been removed as coach of the Colorado State University football team following two straight losing seasons.

The university announced the change to the public Wednesday afternoon while Rams players met for a 2 p.m. team meeting to learn of the coaching change.

Bobo's departure from CSU was called a "mutually agreed to separation agreement" in a news release. Athletic director Joe Parker is scheduled to hold a press conference at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Under terms of the separation agreement, Bobo will be paid $1.825 million in three annual installments until 2022. The first payment of $608,334 will be paid June 30, 2020. The second payment of $608,333 will be paid June 30, 2021 and the final one of $608,333 will be paid on June 30, 2022.

Potential candidates of interest:

Tony Alford — Alford, an All-Western Athletic Conference running back and 1,000-yard rusher at CSU as a junior in 1989, is in his fifth season as the assistant head coach and running backs coach at Ohio State after spending the previous six seasons (2009-14) as an assistant at Notre Dame, coaching running backs for four years and receivers for two. He was the Fighting Irish’s recruiting coordinator in his final three seasons there.

An Ohio native who graduated from Doherty High School in Colorado Springs, Alford got his start in coaching as an assistant at Fort Collins High School in 1993 and also spent a year as a high school assistant in Florida before moving up to the college ranks.

Urban Meyer — Just, no. The rumors will run rampant after Meyer was in Fort Collins this week, but he won't be the next coach of the Rams.

Yes, Meyer worked at CSU in the 1990s, but no, he is not a candidate. First, he made more than $7 million per year in his last stop at Ohio State. He’s not going to take a $1 million job in the Mountain West. He’s also had baggage follow him everywhere and he doesn’t stick for long. If (read: when) he returns to the sidelines, he'll have plenty of Power 5 teams chasing him.

Not that I think CSU is the one (though he was there in the Bruce years?) ... but I could see him going to a Mid Major, FCS, or even lower Division school in a year or three. Depending what else is going on in his life and how well he's doing medically.
Somewhere the expectations are low, his salary is just a bonus, ... but he stays connected to the College game. Seems to me, recruiting was his favorite part and he enjoyed being in that mentor role.
Problem is, wherever he goes... people will make expectations.

Lol Colorado newspaper really has to take a shot at Meyer for having "baggage" that he carries around? Fuck off
Baggage? Would they expect Urban to not pack up his trophy case if he relocates?

Unless he's completely crazy about Fat Tire products, he's not spending any real time in Fort Collins.
