Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

I thought it was a done deal that College Station was bidding farewell to Sumlin?

Regardless, do not want to lose Schiano but I guess it's coming at some point.
Would hate to lose him, but yeah, I always saw it as a two year marriage. Will be interesting to see who comes in if he goes. These hires always make me nervous when you don't have a ready-made replacement on staff.

Chip Kelly reportedly turned down Tennessee offer, turned away Nebraska interest

It really is looking like a two-school race for Chip Kelly‘s services.

On the heels of a weekend meeting with Florida officials in New Hampshire, Kelly also reportedly sat down with a contingent from UCLA this week regarding their head coach opening. It’s been widely thought that, in the coming days — especially if the Gators have anything to say about it — Kelly would decide between UF and UCLA and likely not entertain interest from other programs.

In that vein, and citing a person with knowledge of the situation, George Schroeder of USA Today is reporting that Kelly recently turned down an offer from one SEC school and rebuffed the advances from a Big Ten program.

Kelly turned down a recent offer from Tennessee, the person said. He is also believed to have turned away interest from Nebraska.

While two schools are seemingly in the mix at the moment, Schroeder is also reporting that Arizona State, should it come open, would also be of interest to the former Oregon head coach. Th earliest ASU would shed themselves of Todd Graham would be Saturday night as they square off with rival Arizona that afternoon.

Between UCLA and Florida for chip, UCLA makes way more sense. He's already recruited California heavily and probably very little in Florida. Also the PAC 12 is not as cut throat as the SEC and whether it's true or not you hear that recruiting isn't is favorite thing to do. And lastly his style of offense was proven to work in the PAC 12, and while it may work in the SEC as well, it's still a theory. I think he'd do well at UCLA, whereas I'm not sure about Florida.

I agree. Not sure how he'd do in the cut-throat world of SEC recruiting, not to mention all of the hob-nobbing with boosters, etc. that would be required of him. Florida is a pressure cooker. If you're not competing for national titles at a school like Florida, you're on the hot seat pretty quickly. At UCLA, win 9-10 games and beat USC a few times and you're golden.

UF fanbase is much like UT, they think they should be in the NC hunt every year.

Problem for the next coach is that Spurrier and Urban both won at that clip, more or less, and that level of winning will be the standard.

I'd take UCLA in a heartbeat

Tennessee would do well to give up the Gruden pipe dream and take a hard look at Schiano. Of course, selfishly, I hope everybody just keeps obsessing over offense leaving Schiano right where he is.
I think you are correct. I do not see any of the big programs giving Schiano a job mainly because they are conferences that do not give a damn about defense. Most of the conferences are becoming offensive minded and I just do not think that a AD would take a chance on a guys that is defensive minded coach. I read an article on Yahoo where they mentioned that Nebraska might be a possibility and that I might be able to see but the other jobs like UT, A&M, and jobs like that I just do not seem him getting. There is also the recruiting and I just did not know how good of a recruiter Schiano is.
