Clifford suspended (Washington OK to play) In Championship

Sorry if this has been posted earlier, I didn't want to read through 14 pages of stuff. A source I have inside the team, it was due [deleted speculation] (DWash for sure). Not sure why Cliff is suspended, if it was for the same thing or not.

From the more and more that we hear it is sounding like Washington may have been the offender, whatever the infraction was, and Clifford may have found himself wrong place, wrong time.

Don't be too quick to judge Washington. This was released a short time ago.

Defensive Back Suspended

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State defensive back Eugene Clifford has been suspended from preparations for the Buckeyes? BCS championship game with LSU in New Orleans Jan. 7.

He was suspended by head coach Jim Tressel for a violation of team rules and will not play in the BCS championship game.

The Buckeyes resume practice for the bowl game on Dec. 26 in Columbus

Donald Washington has not been mentioned or suspended at this time.

BB73 EDIT - This same press release now appears on tOSU's official site

And this from Rivals - note the last line:

There have been reports from numerous sources and media outlets, including this one, that Ohio State has suspended defensive backs Donald Washington and Eugene Clifford for the BCS National Championship game.

A few minutes ago we received the following email confirmation from OSU athletic communications that at least one of the two has, in fact, been suspended by coach Jim Tressel.

An OSU representative also confirmed that no further suspensions are expected.

Just curious where this is from? Everyone else is reporting the Washington suspension including the Dispatch, as well as the insiders here that, trust me, are in the know.

Don't know when these guys were actually suspended, but our last practice before the break for Christmas was on Wednesday. So these guys have barely two weeks to prepare as starters.

This will hurt us, but Vern and Cam will decide how much it hurts us. Hopefully, very very little.

Yup, lots of static right now on the boards. Some are holding on to the hope that DW will not be suspended. Within reason, I really do not care what he did. I want him to play if it is possible.

Most of it is coming from Gene Smiths comments today that it is too early to comment on the suspensions. Meaning, they are not 100% sure that they are out for the game yet.

It's from an Ohio State press release. I got it from a thread started by Steve Helwagen at Bucknuts.

The only one who determines if it is within reason is JT. I trust that getting the 'W' is not going to compromise his principles.

It was again confirmed on 1460 AM that Washington will play and that the media jumped the gun for a story.

What?!?! The media jumped the gun for a story? Not that sounds like a good story for the media to pursue.

ISorry, I just can't see this as being a HUGE loss. Is it a loss, absolutely, but this would and will not be the deciding factor in whether tOSU wins or loses on Jan. 7th.
I think that is very difficult to tell whether or not the loss of a starting CB will be a "deciding factor" if Ohio State should happen to lose to LSU. It might not be a "deciding factor" but it sure as hell might have something to do with it.

This type of situation my not only affect one starting position but also affects how certain schemes might be run.

In addition, it might have an negative effect on the entire team. That you cannot determine.
