The reality of the situation is that Cleveland had zero leverage. Everybody knows Lindor was walking and that they couldn't pay him. Expecting any kind of a strong haul under those circumstances has no basis in reality. Until changes are made to the fundamental rules of MLB, teams like this can only hope to get 5-6 years from elite players before they're priced out of the market. We're a farm team for NY, BOS and LA.
Yet there have been 7 different champions over the last 7 years, including the Royals, and the Rays made the WS last year. I get it, we missed our title the year Joe Buck was wearing Kyle Schwarber’s nightie, but once these guys are gone, the “competitive window” will be back to the 80s with this ownership

I have to laugh at the idea that fans would come to games if the team invested money in the roster. They ponied up for Encarnacion, handing out the most expensive contract in franchise history, off the heels of a World Series appearance and the attendance was still shit in 2017. Cleveland is beyond a fair-weather baseball town and things would be better off if the team just moved. People here just don't care about baseball.

And don't take this as me defending the Dolans. When the team you own is your primary source of making money, that's a problem.

It was over when they traded back-to-back Cy Young winners. That was the end of fan support in this town, at least in terms of going to the games. There’s still a good TV audience, but shit parking options and ownership they have no faith in drove people away for good
