Cleveland Indians Thread of Malaise (2014 Season)

I guess this could make things interesting during spring training. Never heard of these two guys.

Morgan will compete in a crowded arena. The Indians are set in left field (Michael Brantley), center (Michael Bourn) and right (David Murphy, Ryan Raburn). And the Indians signed another notable outfielder, Jeff Francoeur, to a minor-league contract with an invite to big-league camp. The contracts for Morgan and Francoeur reportedly are structured similarly, with each standing to earn more than $1 million, plus incentives, if he makes the team.

I like bringing in Morgan and Francoeur. On the cheap, there's no risk. Francoeur has been wildly inconsistent throughout his career. He was pretty productive as recently as 2011 with KC and will only be 30.

Followed Morgan when he came up with the Indianapolis Indians. Some speed, some defense, some attitude. This was all a while ago, so all that may be left is the attitude.

But generally a fan of his, for the cheap, it's depth. Francouer, yeah, I like that.

They could maximize some of these guys if Rayburn could still play third. Imgaine that...you could have Chis at 3rd and Murphy in left against righties, and move Rayburn to 3rd and Francour in right against lefties, with the depth/rotation of Swisher and Santana at first and Morgan able to play outfield or DH against righties. Unfortunately, Santana and Rayburn can't really play third so we are left with like a milllion outfielders.

I'd say Morgan making the roster is a pretty long shot, like Brantley and Bourn will both have to break their dick. I'd imagine Francouer is gonna have to at least show up and show that he's the good version of himself and in shape and all that and do a little raking in Spring.

Maybe so, but don't underestimate Plush...they will likely carry 5 outfielders in addition to Swisher and use a megarotation at DH, though having GIambi back hurts the possibility of both guys staying some, and Morgan has the disadvantage of batting leftie like Giambi. Plus we know Bourn is prone to injury...I wouldn't be surprised to see Morgan start the year at AAA, nor would I be surprised to see him play for the Tribe sometime this season.

Granted I was not alive in 1912, but I have a hard time not giving Manny Ramirez the nod at RF for 1999.

165 RBI in 147 games, .333 ba, over a 1.1 OPS, .442 OBS, wowza....

Nothing will beat watching that '95 era Tribe to me. The young talent was remarkable.....once in a lifetime, sadly.
