Well Kotchman is actually a better player than I thought they would sign, and he's infinitely better than Lashithead.

don't get too excited. kotchman is a lefty, so you could see a platoon at 1st with laporta.

hopefully it will be a platoon with santana because lou marson actually hits lefties.

this will never happen, not even sure why im posting it but whatever...

Indians' Infatuation with Yoenis Cespedes?

Cleveland is one of the six teams ?very interested? in Cespedes.

The Indians? outfield needs include (but are not limited to):
-A right handed hitting power bat
-Defense
-Speed
-Outfield versatility
-Youth

What am I missing? If the Indians? marketing department is looking for some big screen entertainment in-between-innings, Cespedes looks to fill in there, too. Cespedes has got all those on his side and Cleveland would appear a fine fit.

At 26 years old, he?d fit both the short and long term plans for the Tribe. The YouTube sensation is a centerfielder at the moment, though he can plausibly shift to either of the corners. With Sizemore?s contract expiring at the end of 2012, Cespedes could slide to center at season?s end, or even spell Sizemore there in 2012.

Seems to hit righties and lefties at about the same average but it looks like most of his power comes from the left side so he could be helpful in keeping Laporta down at Columbus. It will also help, as mentioned, to give Santana some days off behind the plate and let him play first while Marson catches.

Kotchman hit .306 (153-for-500) with 24 doubles, two triples, 10 homers and 48 RBI last year with Tampa Bay. Against righties he hit .313 (110-for-351) with eight homers and 35 RBI. Against lefties at .290 (43-for-148) with two homers and 13 RBI.

this is true.

I wonder how long they will grasp to LaBusta, Im guessing like they did with the Marte Partay, might be awhile before he goes away.

Is it really proper to use "power" in the same sentence as "Kotchman" without a negative qualifier? :(

Kotchman has a grand total of 59 HR, 145 doubles and 7 triples in 2,588 at bats over 8 ML seasons. By comparison, Matt LaPorta has 30 HR, 51 doubles and 2 triples in 909 at bats over 3 ML seasons. I know, LaPorta's other stats don't match up to Kotchman, Kotchman has a better glove, etc. But, it seems quite clear that Kotchman is NOT going to provide any boost in power for the Tribe.

I really hope they don't go that route. Marte was so frustrating, and should have been out LOOOOOOONG before they actually cut ties.

When Marte was in Cleveland those teams could not have won anything, even if the second coming of Brooks Robinson was playing 3B. The Tribe used Marte to take up space, and very little budget (the most important factor, of course) during those "rebuidling" years. After all, somebody had to take that roster spot and it's not like there were any future all stars being kept in the minors because Marte was in Cleveland.

Besides, I was there the night Marte pitched a perfect inning against the Yankees; one of the true highlights of the last 10 years for the Tribe!

i saw that today and immediately thought of asdrubal becoming a FA in 2013 and then becoming the yankees future starting SS...all because we wont pay him 1.5 or so million more a year

If he's starting for the Yankees in 2014 it will be due to the Indians not ponying up 10 million a year (at least...AC will be only 28)...I'm sure they'd already have locked Cabrera up if it was really 1.5 million more to keep him around.

Side note: who names their kid Meyer?
