To be clear, Re: Santana, I think he is an absolute mess right now. I was probably the first to throw out the "bust" label a few weeks back. But, I did have issues comparing him to LaBusta, in that Santana has shown periods of sustained success, reasonable plate discipline, defensive ability, and has at least a decent season under his belt. That's why I'm willing to give him a little more latitude than the guy who has never strung two good games together that I can recall.

But, yes, at this point, Santana has been a massive disappointment...and the passes are only going to go on so long before we all have to realize he's not going to be a middle-of-the-order offensive powerhouse at the C position. I'm starting to think we have a .230-.340-.400 guy who can play above average defense and will take walks vice the .290-.380-.500 guy we hoped for.

Speaking of Santana's "above average defense" is there any place to find stats on catcher's plays at the plate? Santana, again, tonight dropped the ball on what would have been an out at home. Seems to me, without the stats to back it up, that this is something he does a lot more times than not.

this new pitcher we got #34...doing pretty good today vs the o's

spoke too soon...gave up a 2 run homer to Jim Thome(whoever that is) now tribe is down 2-1
That would be Zach McCallister. He has been called up earlier this season from Columbus.

I have no idea why the Indians erected a monument for Thome before they were absolutely sure he was not going to play major league baseball again. Erecting a monument for an opposing player who hits home runs against his former team:shake:

Santana hit a 2 run homer in the 9th, but he also struck out with the bases loaded and 2 outs earlier in the game on a 2-2 count...without ever swinging the bat. Pressure situations are killing him. DOwn 4-0 in the 9th with nothing to lose, hey swing away.

CLEVELAND ? The Cleveland Indians acquired veteran Brent Lillibridge from the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, adding some backup versatility as they seek to stay in the AL Central race.

Minor-league right-hander Jose De La Torre was sent to Boston, which had acquired Lillibridge on June 24 as part of the trade that sent corner infielder Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox.

Lillibridge has seen extensive action at every position except pitcher and catcher in his career. He is expected to be used in a utility role after joining the Indians on Wednesday when the team will have to clear a spot on the 25-man roster for him.

?He?s a guy we can use to give (shortstop Asdrubal) Cabrera and (second baseman Jason) Kipnis a rest,? manager Manny Acta said.

The 28-year-old Lillibridge has hit .212 in 295 games for Atlanta, the White Sox and Boston.

?We?re not bringing him here to be in the middle of the lineup,? Acta said. ?Infielders who hit .300 are not on the bench.?

To make room on the 40-man roster, Cleveland transferred third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL. Chisenhall has a broken right forearm.
