CLEVELAND, Ohio -- First baseman Carlos Santana, who has spent his entire big league career with the Indians, has signed a three-year $60 million deal with the Phillies.
Jon Heyman of Fanrags was first to report the deal. The deal includes an option worth $17.5 million for a fourth year.
Well considering how much they overpaid Ryan Howard’s corpse in his last contract, I’m not surprised.Santana signs with the Phillies

$20M/year for a guy who rarely hits before June and is prone to extended slumps? No thanks. He's had some big moments, but he's not worth that kind of money.
Disagree. You do not have to DH him. He is one of the better, if not, the best defensive first baseman in the ML and probably should have won the Gold Glove for this past season.Especially going to the nl where you can't DH him. He definitely strikes me as a contract year type player.
He's actually a reasonable Santana analog at 40% of the cost.Yonder Alonso is Santanas cheapish replacement.
