I do not know. I would have rather kept Shaw or Smith and let McAllister go. At least Shaw and Smith could eat up some mailings.. At times they were not the best quality innings but much more reliable than McAllister. However, the money that Shaw and Smith got is just ridiculous.

Well considering how much they overpaid Ryan Howard’s corpse in his last contract, I’m not surprised.
It’s a shame to lose him, but he goes through too many deep hitting slumps to get Edwin money

$20M/year for a guy who rarely hits before June and is prone to extended slumps? No thanks. He's had some big moments, but he's not worth that kind of money.

I was always perplexed by how he could never even seem to hit his weight before about mid June. Seemed like every year, he'd be hovering around the Mendoza line for the first 60-70 games.

Disagree. You do not have to DH him. He is one of the better, if not, the best defensive first baseman in the ML and probably should have won the Gold Glove for this past season.
The Tribe has made some big mistakes with contracts but they were with signing Kipnis and Brantley for what they send them for and now they are probably stuck with at least one of those guys.
