Probably a little better than Allan but not by much. I never heard of Castro in the Indians organization..

I think Martin is quite a bit better than Allen. He's played very good CF in Detroit, one of the largest OFs in MLB. His arm is WAY better than Allen. Martin can't hit lefties, Allen can't hit anybody. Martin's hitting nearly .275 against righties so he'll platoon with Davis. Not an earth shattering trade, but it helps. Another often overlooked value here: Allen's now the depth guy in Cbus, in case there's yet another OF injury.

Castro is one of several middle infielders in the Tribe minors who have a legit chance to get to the ML. Some of the rating guys think Castro's bat can let him be a starter, others think his bat makes him a utility guy. Either way, he was not likely to smell the ML in Cleveland's system for the foreseeable future. He's blocked by better players at the ML level now and by the time any of them leave Cleveland the better players in the minors behind Castro will pass him. Cleveland got some value from a guy who they'd likely never use.

Did the Indians overpay for Martin in terms of Castro's prospect ranking? With all the OF injuries and next year's roster situation, they were going to overpay no matter who they got. Teams know that the Indians really have NO OF depth right now and they had to make a move ASAP before somebody else got injured.

Dowdy is probably the sweetener to allow the Tiggers to get a better player (Castro) and let the Indians try to fix a pitcher who, when on, has been pretty decent but has been really up and down this season. IF the Indians can get Dowdy's control issues fixed, they might get a middle relief guy out of this deal.

Leonys Martin is good against RHP but absolute ass against LHP.

Potential AL playoff matchup SP wise are heavy on the RHP side from a graphic I saw, so the trade makes since in that form. It's not "flashy" by any means but he at least can play good defense in OF and provides a productive bat in certain cases (RHP)

Platoon with guyer when LHP comes up, Guyer is the opposite, decent vs LHP, straight trash against RHP. Rajai Davis likely plays CF against LHP, he's not the greatest against LHP but definitely better than Martin.

Guyer vs LHP: .274 BA, .391 OBP, .956 OPS
Martin vs RHP: .275 BA, .350 OBP, .783 OPS

It's not earth shattering, but it helps some.

Brad Hand's impact can be seen in last nights game

Instead of over extending Bauer they were able to pull him after 6 1/3. Hand was able to come in and toss 1 1/3 to give way to Allen. Pre Hand Bauer (who was not having his best game) is likely left in to sink or swim.

Carrassco seems to be re-gaining form. 7 1/3 4 H 10 K/0BB Today in a 2-0 win.

Last 3 starts since the AS Break. 20 1/3 IP 16 H 3 ER 26K/3BB

Schedule down the stretch is pretty charmin soft

22 of the final 55 are against KC/CWS/DET

Plus throw in 7 against Baltimore & Toronto who are both pretty bad

Uphill battle but they COULD catch the Astros if they play their cards right. (7 behind them in the Loss column currently)
