You might be going overboard a little...

I hate to talk so negative about the Indians before the first pitch is even thrown out but out of the starting lineup we probably have 3 guys who could start on other teams (Choo, Santana, and O. Cabrera). There might be a few teams in the major leagues where the other 6 guys might fit in but those teams probably are not division winners. I have no idea what will happen if one of our middle infielders would get hurt. The other positions can be replaced because there is nothing there currently.
They're in rebuilding mode, so I'm not sure what you would expect. Asdrubal is a starter on just about any team. Going around the horn...Santana has a chance to be as good as any catcher in baseball this year. LaPorta is a young kid with potential, though I suspect this is his make or break year, Cabrera-AsCab should be a solid middle infield if they stay in one piece. If they get hurt, Donald will be back or Everett can fill in. Kipnis is the future at 2B and I'm sure he'll get a look once his arbitration clock resets if need be, 3B is a mess right now, but Chisenhall isn't far off, Hafner is a prototypical DH, Brantley has potential in CF and played well the last month last year, Choo is an All Star, Grady will eventually be back and you hope he can at least approach his old form, Kearns, Buck and Duncan are insurance policies/trade bait/temporary fill ins. It really isn't that bad, and certainly no worse than the early '90s, '02-'03 Tribe teams.
I look at our pitching staff and it just hurts my eyes. Out of the starters, Carmona is probably only one worthwhile and on most other teams he probably would be a #3 starter if his head does not explode. I think we have some arms in the bullpen and if they are mixed properly together might be able to hold us in some games before their arms giveaway due to the number of pitches they will be throwing.
Granted, the SP is a question mark after Fausto, but Carrasco has potential, Masterson pitched much better in September. The other two are shaky, but I suspect that'll be a revolving door anyway. White and (I suspect) Pomeranz aren't far off as they are both college kids and are both very good prospects.
The BP is always a crapshoot, but they aren't contending for anything this year anyway, so may as well see what these guys have.
If we did not have Hafner's salary, our payroll would be under $40 mil
The good news is Hafner's contract comes off the book after 2012...right when they look to start contending again. His contract isn't as much of a burden as you think because they're not spending any money on FA until they know what they have with these kids.
I used to enjoy watching the Indians on STO in past years by last year really got me down and I think this year is going to be worse. I am getting tired of waiting because I have waited so many times.
This year is about laying a foundation for the future. There's a lot of talent approaching the majors, so there's plenty of reason to not give up hope. Plus we have a GM that actually realizes the importance of the draft. This year's gonna have it's ups and downs, but I certainly don't see it being any worse than last. A full season with Santana, hopefully a healthy LaPorta, young guys like Brantley, plus top prospects like Chisenhall, Kipnis, White, and possibly Weglarz are gonna debut this year. It's really not that bad. The only way this franchise can compete is by building from within, and that's exactly what they're doing.
