Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

Rotation set: Carmona-Carrasco-Masterson-Tomlin-Talbot

Little surprised to see Carrasco #2, but it's really a crapshoot after Fausto. Masterson pitched better in September, so hopefully that carries over. Talbot has been pretty awful this spring, so he may be on a short leash with Gomez and/or Huff waiting in the wings.

i can see why they did this. carmona and masterson are both sinker ball type pitchers, so carrasco was put in between them to split them up.

Nix sent to Toronto for chump change

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/mar/29/indians-send-inf-jayson-nix-to-blue-jays-for-cash/

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. (AP) - Infielder Jayson Nix has been traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Indians got cash in Tuesday’s deal.

Nix was claimed by Cleveland off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on June 24. He hit .234 with 12 home runs in 78 games for the Indians, splitting time between second base and third base.

The 28-year-old Nix has a career average of .215 with 26 homers and 48 RBIs in 218 career games for Colorado Rockies, White Sox and Indians.

Nix came to camp in competition for an infield spot, but hit only .176 and was beaten out of the starting job at third base by Jack Hannahan and lost the utility job to veteran Adam Everett.

3B is a mess, I expect it won't be long until Chisenhall is manning the position

If he performs well in Columbus, I suspect he'll be on the same path Santana was last summer...and I'm fine with that. I'd think he, Kipnis, Weglarz, White and probably a few others will be matriculating to Cleveland at various points this summer.

Anyone else going to the Indians/Clippers game in Columbus today?

I'm excited. Going with a pretty massive group. Drinking and watching my two favorite teams... yes please.

Well that was retarded. Called the game at the beginning of the third because of fucking snow.

Get to go to another game this year for free though..

25 Man set:
Starting Pitchers: Fausto Carmona, Carlos Carrasco, Justin Masterson, Josh Tomlin, and Mitch Talbot

Bullpen: Chad Durbin, Justin Germano, Frank Herrmann, Rafael Perez, Vinnie Pestano, Tony Sipp, and Chris Perez.

Infield: Matt LaPorta, Orlando Cabrera, Asdrubal Cabrera, Jack Hannahan, and Adam Everett. When Jason Donald returns, Adam Everett will likely be the first one to be sent down.

Outfield: Austin Kearns, Michael Brantley, Shin-Soo Choo, Shelley Duncan, and Travis Buck. Notice that Grady is currently not on the active roster as he is injured. Once he is back on the team either Duncan or Buck will be headed to Columbus.

Catchers: Carlos Santana and Lou Marson. Lou could see extended playing time with the possibility of Santana playing some games at first base. He had a rough 2010 season, but he is still young and will look to improve in his sophomore season.

DH: The one and only Travis Hafner. Hafner has been inconsistent for the last few years but is looking great in 2011. During spring training he hit over . 300 with one home run. The fact that he only hit 1 home run scares me a little, but he should send a few balls into Pronkville this season.

The starting rotation is an unknown, as is the bullpen.

In the infield, at least we're solid and somewhat proven up the middle. Hopefully LaPorta realizes his potential this year, though his robust .153 spring average makes that seem unlikely. I'll try to hold off on the "LaBusta" moniker until May. Third base will be a mess until Chisenhall is ready, but at least it shouldn't be as embarrassing defensively.

Who knows what Grady will eventually bring. At this point, I view anything from him as a bonus. Choo is the one star in the lineup, who knows how long we'll have him. Hopefully Brantley keeps hitting like he did in September. Buck is versatile, showed potential in Oakland once-upon-a-time and hit the cover off the ball this spring. Kearns is what he is...a cheap bat. Duncan...well, yeah. Either him or Buck will be gone when Grady comes back.

We're set at Catcher. Can't wait to see what Santana does, didn't appear to miss a step this spring.

DH...anything from Pronk is a bonus as it has been the past three plus years.

My waaaaay too early prediction...71-91

Sitting here in the office looking out the window with a bunch of fucking snow on the ground has me worried about tomorrow's game. Looks like i'll have to double up on the pre-game drinking downtown to sit through it (due to both inclement weather and quality of play).

Pretty much agree with much of what you wrote, except your claim that the infield is "solid and somewhat proven up the middle." We've got a SS coming off a miserable year with the glove who has yet to play more than 120 games at SS in a ML season. At 2B we have a decent SS who's really never played 2B before. Our starting SS and 2B have played the equivalent of about 10 to 12 full games together during Spring Training. So, what's so "proven" about this?

Well, compared to the rest of the roster, they're at least established major leaguers. Aside from Choo, that's about as "proven" as you get on this roster.
