NBA Draft 2012: Why Cavs Should Avoid Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

I have been kind of hesitant about beal (the least publicized of the top wingmen) but the more I hear and read about the others the more I am in favor of beal over MKG or Barnes. He sounds like he good in multiple areas including perimeter shot and rebounding. I am hoping for beal and then melo/ezeli/Leonard(dont think he will still be available though) and if we are lucky draymond green falling to the 2nd round

My perfect draft would go MKG or Beal with the first and Melo with the second. I would like Green in the 2nd round with another wing.

If the Suns really want Gee I wonder what they would be willing to trade for the Cavs to let him walk? That #13 pick looks pretty nice. The Suns have always been willing to sell picks. I'd love to send Gee, cash, and a second rounder to the Suns for #13. I'd even throw in the Kings future first rounder to get it done.

Gilbert has hit the radio circuit starting yesterday and I know he will be on a bunch of radio this morning too. Of course pumping up the casino but also talking Cavs.

He said that his son Nick will be grounded for the summer if he doesn't win the lottery again.

Overall very optimistic for next season as he should.

This draft is going to be critical for the Cavs. They need to get lucky in the lottery and at least get one of the top 3 picks. They also need to hit with the Lakers pick and get a player that can develop into a starter in a year or two. If they can turn one of the second rounders into a good bench player I'll be happy. They have cap space this summer so I would target a player that fills a need, the only problem is they will have to overpay a little to get someone to come to Cleveland. If they end up 2nd or 3rd in the lottery and don't plan on taking Drummond I would see if I could get Hibbert out of Indy.

I've been pretty impressed with Grant thus far, so I'll trust whoever they decide to take. Drummond has high bust potential, but his athletic ability hasn't been seen in forever. Maybe since Shaq was down on the bayou averaging 10 points in his freshman season at LSU.

You're right though, a top 3 pick is huge. It guarantees one of Davis, MKG, or Drummond. If they fall to 4 it's not terrible though because they can still take Beal who may be the best fit with Kyrie. I also think there is a high likelihood of using our extra picks to move up in the first round with the Lakers pick. If they want a guy like Terrence Ross it shouldn't be very hard to package the Lakers pick with a second rounder. There are a lot of intriguing players available projected to go in the middle of round 1.

The most important thing the Cavs did was successfully tank down the stretch. Something the Browns have not learned how to do.

Dependent on the year, many teams would rather trade their pick, than take a guy in the first and have to dedicate several million in salary to them. Teams with 2 first rounders like Portland are there for the taking as you said as well.

columbus has been trying for years...it wont happen...the kings are going to Anaheim and St. Louis or Seattle again would be in line for another team...although it would be nice for something to be in the Arena District when the blue jackets leave town

Agreed. Last year Dallas at #26 didn't care to bring in a guaranteed rookie contract and traded out for future picks.

Every year there are teams willing to trade their picks for various reasons. It's already a known that Portland will be looking to deal, but prob at a higher value than what Cleveland wants to give up. I still think there will prob be a team in the 15 - 20 range that would be willing to slide down.

Good point on Phoenix. For years they have looked at ways to unload draft picks for extra cash.
