Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I'll stake all my v-cash that the Warriors take the series....it is too much of a magical story with best record ever for the NBA to allow anything but to happen.....:paranoid:

almost as magical as the prodigal son returning home to deliver a city its first championship of any kind in 50+ years, the city's first nba title, all against the strongest possible opponent ever? that would be the ultimate sports story, but the media won't hint at running with that until the cavs get to 3 wins in the series.

^-this-^. The Warriors have already had their day in the sun, and a lot of folks outside of the Bay Area are getting sick and tired of Steph Curry, Splash Brothers, etc. The Cavs beating the unbeatable juggernaut for Cleveland's first pro championship in 52 years would be a far more "magical" story...and would likely be more profitable for the NBA as a whole.

I hope you guys are right and I would love to see it for the fans and the City.

Last years finals were 2.3 viewing points (11.6) ahead of the final year of the Heatles (9.3) and actually beat all of the Heatles finals by over a point (10.2, 10.1, 10.4, 9.3). It was the highest rating since 2001, when the Lakers pummeled Iverson, and was the second highest since Jordan left in 98. I don't know if the league will be hoping for a Cleveland title, or for them to chase for a year or two more.

Another thing I found funny looking at tv ratings was that the 79 Bullets/Sonics final, widely regarded as the most "who gives a fuck" final in modern sports, drew a full point more (7.2) than the 07 Spurs/Cavs (6.2), which was the lowest rated since they began recording in 1976.

If the Cavs don't get it done this year, I think fans outside of Ohio will be tired of the "chasing" routine. Conversely, should the Cavs slay the GS dragon, it could set up an epic rubber-match scenario for next season...

Fans outside of Cleveland and NorCal will be a lot less fascinated by a rubber-match scenario than most people on this board.
