Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Toronto got swept in the first round last year.
Miami couldn't even make the playoffs. We also beat Miami handedly early this year when they had Bosh.
Their lack of depth seemed to be an issue. Picking up Joe Johnson was huge for them.

Our team is deeper and more talented than anyone else in the East.
Beating us 4 times in 7 games is a whole different animal than beating us once on the back end of a back-to-back.

But the same goes for the West. GS and SAS are far better teams than we are.
I cant imagine us beating either of them 4 times in 7 games.

Didn't matter last year...

Absolutely no growth from last year to this year, either. It's evident every single game. I'm not falling for the OMG! LeBron! Kyrie! Love! Championship nonsense. The fans just think they'll flip the magic "championship basketball" switch come May but the games are on cable television for everyone to see. It's no secret that these Cavs are not champions. They're just lucky they'll get a shot because they play in a weak Eastern Conference that still gives the Cavs all they can handle. They fired the old coach who wasn't getting it done and now are barely holding on to the top spot under the new coach. The defense has fallen off of a cliff. Now they are saying that they will prioritize rest over the #1 seed. I'd say it too if I was losing ground to a weak Eastern Conference. Whatever helps them sleep at night...
I mean, last year (playoffs) they relied on Dellavadova to be their #2 scorer after all of the injuries. And still gave GS a fight. At this point, I'm more worried about San Antonio than GS. They are unstoppable at home.

Granted, the Cavs were without Love but what is Love giving them now? You can't count on Kyrie to be healthy because that's a slim chance. The rest of the Cavs are streaky role players at best. The Cavs have played GS twice this season with a better roster than the Finals' roster, lost both and got murdered at home by 34. GS is better than they were last year to counter any inprovements Cleveland has made but I don't see any improvements in their play. It was mentioned that maybe the Cavs would be better with LeBron and just a bunch of role players...that was every Cavs team before he bolted for Miami. Back then it was all, "LeBron needs stars." It doesn't really matter because...Cleveland.

Assuming they get past San Antonio. And I'll agree, Kevin Love isn't at his best this year. But I also get the sense that the Cavs really haven't pushed to kill everyone else's record in the East either. Like they're content with where they are, so long as they stay the 1 seed. Perhaps they'll turn up the intensity when the playoffs roll around. I think we may see the big three players split up a bit when the playoffs start. LeBron and Love on the floor at the same time, and Kyrie when LeBron is on the bench. All of this assuming Kyrie stays healthy, as you said.

As for GS not getting past SA, either one kills the Cavs IMO.

There was an article I read today that said they will take resting players over the #1 seed.

Great. Then don't watch the rest of the year and spare us your whiny bitching every day.

Awww, I take a day off every now and then. You should probably stay out of Cleveland threads though if you don't like bitching. It's pretty common.

Maybe you're new to Cleveland sports. You seem to have optimism instead of realism. As for the rest of us, "We are all witnesses."

I've been really disappointed in this season and the way that they haven't been able to mesh but for some reason, I have a feeling they will have different attitude come April. It's a pretty long season and they weren't on a pace to try to break NBA history or really get challenged in the East. I think we'll see a better team in April. Might still not be good enough to win a championship but they'll be better.

LeBron creates a toxic presence in the locker room. Irving and Love aren't playing well, so LeBron unfollows the Cavs on Twitter, subtweets the entire team, and then casually mentions to the media that he'd like to play with Wade, Paul, and Melo. The fact that the Wade may not be in the league for much longer expedites the timeline and puts his current teammates on notice.

That isn't leadership, that's a series of mind games. It does nothing to improve the team.

Yeah, pretty much. The whole "I love Ohio" rhetoric ended just about the time LBJ realized the road to a title wasn't going to be a cakewalk. Predictable.

So predictable. LeBron wants to cherry pick championships. He went to Miami to cherry pick a couple. Then he came back to Cleveland because he could play with Kyrie and Love and winning would be easy again, just like LeBron likes it. LeBron doesn't do hard. Hard is too hard. He just didn't see that a couple other teams out there had the talent and chemistry, and would play like actual teams and kick his shit in. LeBron and his posse of "every move I make is calculated" managers bricked a 3 on that one...
