Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Did anyone ever think Irving would be the MVP on the team?

Losing to Detroit by 23, at home, is not a good sign. Yes they shot over 50% from 3, but how much of that was a hot shooting day from Detroit and how much of that was too many wide open looks? Something has to change, and soon.

If you could bare to watch that filth, a lot of it was Detroit pulling shots out of their ass. But the constant turnovers and lack of awareness on defense is inexcusable.

Growing disconnect between Cavs and Blatt. I would like to see them return to Blatt's offense and make a few personnel moves. They need a new center ASAP.

If they do fire Blatt, which I don't think is fair after only 30 games, I'd like to see them get George Karl. I think hiring Blatt was the right move before this team had Love and LeBron back. Once that happened, the situation changed. Blatt still needs time to figure out the NBA whether or not the Cavs are in "win now" mode. With a center and a decent defensive wing player I think they can make real strides with Blatt as coach. They may wind up as the 3 or 4 seed in the East, but I think by then they'd be able to breeze through the East even having to beat Toronto and Chicago on the road.

It's time for LeBron to stop playing coach and act like a player. Yeah he's a vet, and probably the best player in the league (though I'm convinced he's on the decline now), but he still has to listen to Blatt for things to work. If LeBron won't listen to Blatt, why would Tristan Thompson or Dion Waiters?

Karl provides the experience of coaching an NBA team (and not an overseas team) and his offenses like to run. He's not going to out-coach Thibodeau or Gregg Popovich, but he wouldn't need to with an upgrade at center and a wing defender. Once this team finds some chemistry they'll need an adequate coach. Nothing more.

Personally, I like Blatt. I don't think a new coach will make these guys put more effort in on defense.
We knew defense was going to be a problem coming into this season, now its Blatt's fault this team is still playing lazy?
Firing Blatt wont solve anything. The knicks got phil Jackson and they are even more of a hot mess.

I agree about Lebron, he does look like his best years are behind him. I've seen a lot of bad plays from him.
Holding the ball when the Cavs have clear mismatches. Trying too hard to force passes in traffic.
Losing Varejao is such a huge loss. There's not enough creativity offensively now. Especially with Kyrie out.

The biggest weakness I see are that we need a better backup PG and a starting Center, also too much overall laziness with this team.
They need to close quicker on defense, cant keep giving teams wide open shots.

The biggest issue with needed pieces, major pieces like a center and backup wing player, is that they don't really have the assets or leverage to get anything. You could trade Thompson and/or Waiters, but you lose your bench production in doing so.

I've been waiting for a big enough sample size for an article like this: http://deadspin.com/lebron-cant-finish-at-the-rim-and-its-sad-1676006608

That decrease in efficiency is huge. Unless that's some anomaly from a shooting slump, him figuring out how to play at a lighter weight, or lack of team chemistry and opportunities, the Cavs are in rough shape. If LeBron is on that much of a decline you can forget a title, and even sniffing at the Finals.

This is just Lebron's way of making sure everyone in the Cavs organization knows he's in charge. The only way a business decision makes him leave the Cavs would be if Gilbert gets caught at a Klan rally. Leaving just because the Cavs are shitty would murder any goodwill that he has and cost him millions down the road. I still have to wonder if most of the current problems are due to Lebron wanting to get his guy on the bench rather than Blatt. Another month like this, Blatt will get canned, and Lebron magically starts playing like he did the past few years.

I'm sure Love was part of the deal to get Lebron to come back to Cleveland, but looking back I would rather have Wiggins with Lebron playing 20 minutes a game at the 4. Bennett looks like he is a complete waste of space, so I can't totally hate on the trade. Lebron is a huge mismatch at the 4, but Love can't defend well enough to play the 5 against most teams so they can't use that lineup without putting him on the bench. I would have loved to see a lineup of Kyrie, one of Waiters/Miller/Marion/Delly, Wiggins, Lebron, Thompson. That way you could have 3-4 good defenders, 2-3 floor spacers, and 2 energy guys that can finish. I guess if the Cavs were going to suck this year regardless I would have rather done it with Wiggins. Too bad he didn't sign with Nike.

I wish the Cavs would just accept that Kyrie is Iverson, not Chris Paul and Lebron is Magic, but a better scorer. Get a decent point guard for when Lebron isn't playing the 1, put Kyrie at the 2, and get a decent 7-footer. Just because Kyrie isn't taller than 6'3" doesn't mean he's not a shooting guard. Just because Love is big, doesn't make him a "big man".
