Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

THE IRONY
If LeBron never left... we wouldn't be in this position now

It's still difficult to fully grasp... we are A POWERHOUSE
with the potential to be THE POWERHOUSE for years to come

If Lebron had handled leaving better I would have sworn that this was the plan all along. The Cavs needed the past 4 years of high draft picks to be able to acquire the resources needed to bring this kind of team to Cleveland.

Shawn Marion officially signs with Cavaliers

Shawn Marion is joining the Cavaliers, the latest addition in what's already been an incredible offseason in Cleveland.

There had been reports of a deal in mid-August, but Marion, via his Instagram account, confirmed the move with a simple "Done deal" caption. A 17-year NBA veteran, Marion averaged over 30 minutes per night while starting 76 games for the Mavericks last season. He averaged 10.4 ppg, the lowest total since his rookie season and shot 48 percent from the field.

Aside from their treasure trove of acquisitions, the Cavs are still believed to be the front-runner in landing Ray Allen as well.

Undrafted PG Chris Crawford signed a two-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, including partial guarantee, league sources tell RealGM.

A 6-foot-4 guard, Crawford made 37 percent of his 3-pointers in college. He also shot just 9-for-35 (26 percent) in summer league, though that’s a small sample.

I have to think that’s the skill that intrigues the Cavaliers. In most areas, Crawford is unspectacular, though decent.

Will he make the roster, though?

As I see it, Cleveland already has 13 players mostly locked in:

  • LeBron James
  • Kevin Love
  • Kyrie Irving
  • Anderson Varejao
  • Dion Waiters
  • Tristan Thompson
  • Mike Miller
  • Shawn Marion
  • James Jones
  • Matthew Dellavedova
  • Brendan Haywood
  • Joe Harris
  • Dwight Powell
John Lucas III, Malcolm Thomas, Erik Murphy and Alex Kirk also loom with small or no salary guarantees. Lucas, Thomas and Murphy – acquired from the Jazz for use in a later trade – still hold value for their ability to facilitate deals. I’m not sure whether the Cavaliers will keep any of those three into the season to lengthen the window for making such a follow-up trade, but that could squeeze out Crawford.

NBA teams can assign a few players waived before the regular season to their D-League team as long as another D-League team doesn’t hold their rights. This allows an NBA team to more closely control a player’s development, but other NBA teams are free to sign that player.

Crawford might be a candidate for that route, but if he were definitely headed to the Canton Charge, there would be no point of giving him a two-year contract. Though I suspect that second year is fully unguaranteed, it indicates Cleveland’s openness to keeping him on the NBA roster.

Kirk is in the same boat, and likely both wind up waived and in the D-League. But there’s still a chance either plays his way onto the NBA roster.

Of course, if Ray Allen decides to suit up for the Cavaliers, they’ll find room for him much more easily.

Bogans was most notable for being a 4 year starter at Kentucky...as a pro he's the epitome of a journeyman.
Can play D, though.

Cleveland Cavaliers trade for Keith Bogans

Never really heard of the guy, so I can't say much about this. I do know they were trying like hell to get rid of those Jazz players' contracts, so that's a win right?
It is a big win. Gives them a lot more money to work with next summer. One thing Griffin is proving to be is a bit of a savant at salary cap gymnastics. That will bode well for a team that is going to have to fill out a roster around a "Big Three" going forward.
