Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

$5 mil a year for the next two years seems a bit pricey for a journeyman. Could this be another trade chip for the deadline?
Yes, he is good ad D, which this team needs, and yes, I don't think he's a trade chip necessarily as much as I think his contract for next year might be non-guaranteed? Think I read that somewhere, so they might be able to salary dump if they want to free cap space.

Contract is non-guaranteed this year and next, seems like a move that will allow the Cavs to trade for a rim protecting big after this season, when this contract is combined with Haywood's non-guaranteed 10 million contract after this coming season.

this. plus it basically rids the cavs of 4 players that weren't going to make the roster no matter what. they'll probably just pick up a scrub or two to be camp fodder now instead of using these guys.

Dumping Haywood and Bogans next year will free up $16mm+

"Dumping" them will not free up $16mm. We will still be over the cap. So the proper way to use them is to TRADE them for players. Combined we can get up to $21mm in salaries back in any trade involving those two together.

But this gives the Cavs great flexibility. If a player comes available during the year Bogans can be used in that deal, or we just hold him til next offseason and combine him with Haywood's deal (or separately if the right deals become available)

I wish LeBron and TT didn't share an agent. He's going to kill our cap flexibility going forward (especially if he has a wink wink deal coming, which we can assume he does). Thompson is an awful post defender (though he gives a lot of effort) and you're better of trotting out an old vet who can do the same thing at half the cost.

As far as a center... We definitely need one, but man, this team is going to have a big, slow lineup on the floor in crunch time.

Yeah, and we know how LeBron feels about cap space. He was pissed that the Heat amnestied Miller.
TT is too small to be a starting Center, which makes him a backup behind Love and Varejao.
I would rather see the Cavs fill the cap in the future by keeping Waiters (since he will be the starting SG)
and trade TT, haywood plus a first rounder in a deal for someone like Hibbert.
