Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

I find it funny that people keep saying a Wiggins for Love trade can be completed as soon as the 30 days passes from when Wiggins signed. They have to wait 60 days from when the Cavs traded for the Utah guys before they can be flipped and they will need to include at least one of those guys in order to pull off a deal. I can only imagine how the talking heads are going to explode a month from now when nothing has happened.

I still keep going back and forth on making a trade. On the one hand there is a near 100% certainty the Cavs would be an elite offensive team with Lebron, Kyrie, and Love, but on the other hand if they don't make a trade I think they can be an elite defensive team with Lebron, Wiggins, Waiters, Andy, and Thompson (not saying all those guys are elite defenders, just the combination could be great). Truthfully if Blatt is as good of an offensive coach as they say they might be better off sticking with what they have.

Indeed. But it certainly doesn't help the talking heads when the T-Wolves themselves are telling Minnesota newspapers that a deal is expected August 23 or 24. And yet, somehow, these are the guys that are outmaneuvering the Cleveland front office.

If Minnesota demanded Wiggins, what should the Cavs do?
Offer Waiters, Bennett, Utah guys, and 1 or 2 first round picks? Wait it out until February?
Does anyone think Minnesota would take a different offer from another team for Love?

Wouldn't that only be if they are included in the trade? Or maybe it's common knowledge that they would be part of the trade for the evening of $$$.

Cavaliers, Timberwolves have 'handshake agreement' for a Kevin Love trade, per report

...

The Timberwolves and Cavaliers have agreed to a trade in principle that would send Love to Cleveland for a package headlined by rookie Andrew Wiggins, according to Brian Windhorst in a radio appearance with Chris Broussard and Ryan Ruocco. The deal can officially be completed on Aug. 23 when Wiggins will no longer to bound by a rule that says players cannot be traded for 30 days following the signing of a new contract.

Anthony Bennett, the No. 1 overall selection from the 2013 draft, is also reportedly involved in the deal, but he may not be sticking in Minnesota. Bennett could be re-routed to Philadelphia in a trade that would send Thaddeus Young to the Timberwolves.

"The deal is done, but not done," Windhorst said. "The teams have agreed, but they can't say they have agreed and they can't agree because we are in this weird moratorium period. Because you can't trade Andrew Wiggins until the 23rd of this month."

""Hey man, welcome to the league, congratulations on being #1 overall"..

Thanks for the call man, now what's this I hear about you wanting to use me for trade bait?

If you listened to Wiggins in his interview I highly doubt he'd be sharp enough to say something like that. If he did, it's quite simple... "Rule #1 rookie, never pay any mind to the media. I am not the owner nor the GM nor the coach, I don't make those decisions and I am excited to see what you can do in this league."

I'm pretty sure that's the only way to get the money to work.

You guys sure we have to be at 15mil? I think we only have to be within 5 million of Love's contract to make it work. So I think Wiggins and Bennett (plus the picks) would be enough since it's within 5 million.

I couldn't use Wiggins but throwing together TT and Della to get close to Waiters contract it works for Love:

Without Della though, so a.k.a just shy of a 5million difference it does not work:

So I don't think we would technically have to trade the Utah guys....

I would ask for more than Kevin Love... you want Wiggins... give me Dieng too. We need to get a center somewhere...

Yeah they will be included. Waiters, Bennett, Wiggins are all worth around 5M. Only two of those 3 should be traded. Love is worth 15M.

Just a reminder how money works in trade. For Love we need to be within $5 million in contracts to get him. So Wiggins + Bennett is enough money for it to work under the CBA. If more players are being moved, that is where the Utah contracts come in handy. Or, they can be part of another trade to bring a center to the Cavs.

One thing that concerns me is that they're going to go the "revolving door of old/crusty veterans" strategy to cobble together a bench every year.
If we get Love for Wiggins/Bennett and picks.. this is what we are stuck with especially with 3 guys with max or close to max deals...

Now everyone will crow "Gilbert will spend money", he did this before, when you max our your Cap space you are limited into who you can bring in and you have to overpay for trades because you are desperate and don't have any other recourse. I've seen people say "Haywood's contract next year will get us someone" but I haven't seen any names thrown around.

Outside of a Mega cap increase in '16 (of which LBJ will eat up whatever max players are allowed to get 30%?). I don't see this ending well for the Cavs. Hearing that Love has injury issues is just the icing on the cake.
