Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

as is always the case this time of year. two years ago was going to be a loaded draft class with anthony davis, harrison barnes et. all. it's showing to not be all it was cracked up to be. inevitably, some of these can't miss studs are going to expose their warts on the college court, and that draft class won't have near the firepower it was supposed to have. and even if you do tank, you still aren't guaranteed anything.
Yep.

The state of "amateur" college basketball is this country is the reason the nba is pretty much unwatchable to me at this point. Look at the draft history from before 2003-ish, and since. The number of busts in the first round is astounding in recent years. The kids with "elite" talent are looking for the fastest trip to the nba. They're not interested in inproving/honing their game. The aau circuit doesn't develop players and teach fundamentals like they used to in college. It is one giant pick-up/nba-jams circle-jerk and has ruined the game.

The kids that have the great physical tools don't spend the time to actually learn how to use them. The kids that do spend the time in college don't have the elite physical skills. The results ae todays nba, which is garbage.

I know... figures eh? The years the Cavs suck and tank it is the worst run of drafts in recent NBA history. Thank god we got the one stud from the last 3 years.

But we are one Kyrie injury and the annual Andy injury away from tanking.

I'll give you that a major Kyrie injury would cost the Cavs a shot at the playoffs. I think the team has the pieces now that they could withstand losing Kyrie for a few weeks here and there without it being too much of a setback. At least on paper it looks like the Cavs have won the draft over the past 3 years, but it really depends on how Thompson, Waiters, Bennett, and Karasev develop over the next couple years. If the core can stay healthy and Bynum can get close to 100% by the end of the season the Cavs will be a lower seeded team that no one wants to face in the first round of the playoffs.

I'm sure this had nothing to do with the other night when the Cavs were down by about a dozen
Diop came in... and the other team went on something like a 62-20 spree with him in the middle

He was always just a body since there was no bynum, Zeller, and AV was playing about 20 minutes a game. Diop was lucky to get a camp invite. The caves are minorly fortunate that Sims proved to be a mediocre emergency big.

Season opener tonight! Surprised we're at home instead of @ Brooklyn but I'll take it - it'll be a great start to the season and I'm looking forward to the young guys going up against the tough vets (Pierce, KG, Deron, AK47, etc.).

The Cavs offense looks so much better with Varejao out there and looking forward to our late game execution with the 3 guard set of Irving/Jack/Waiters, all guys who love to step up and hit the big shot.

Well I'll be damned...Bynum has played 8 minutes tonight..in the 1st half. Knock on wood.

3 Points
3 Rebounds
2 Assists
2 Blocks

That 8 minutes by Bynum was the turning point for the Cavs tonight. They were down 10 or so when he came in and never looked back. You could tell he has over a year of rust on him, but he's a game changer on both ends of the floor when he plays. Hopefully they can bump his minutes up and Andy's minutes down to keep them both fresh and healthy.

Great opening night win against a team that is supposed to be one of the better teams in the East. The Nets probably aren't as good as they will be this season after they have some time to gel, but I also think they will break down by playoff time.

It would be nice if the Cavs gelled. It won't happen this year, but the Cavs can do a lot better at SF than Clark, and Gee. He's the box score for the out of towners.

Should open the season at 6-1 and end the month around 12-5 which would be a great start to the year.....

In shorter terms, we have a very winnable game against Charlotte tonight - Bynum is questionable, but since I doubt they want him playing in back to back games I'd imagine they sit him tonight and play him tomorrow @ Indiana.

I'd play Bynum tonight myself...they have little chance to beat Indiana up there regardless, so I would make sure they get the win tonight myself by any means necessary, but maybe that's just me.

See I look at it the opposite way - we'll get a win with or without him tonight, so why not save him for tomorrow.

Sidenote - Tristan Thompson looked very good the other night. He might never be an All-Star but he'll be a fringe guy that I think can be a starter on a championship caliber team.

Ugly on the road in the NBA...teams like Boston in the 80's could survive clunkers like this one because they went 39-2 at home...The Cavs can't do that, so they need to get games like that one. FUgly loss, they had lots of chances to win it.
