Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

to be fair, it took a miami heat all-star team getting punked by dirk to get lebron to understand what he needed to do to win a title.

that, and mike brown didn't load up rashard lewis and turkey-glue full of steroids and have dwight howard go ballistic at the foul line.

so, while i hope brown wouldn't be their first choice, there were things that happened during his tenure that were beyond his control.

the thing i always couldnt stand about mike brown is he was always all about defense and that was it...which is fine if you surround yourself with good offensive minded assistants...our offense was very mediocre while under mike brown and most of the scoring output was from lebron...he was also, in my opinion, a terrible in game coach...he was terrible at changing adjustments to his defense or offense during a game...some of the other stuff i can live with that he did...all in all he wasnt a terrible coach and of all the candidates, he actually looks like the best...without having a lebron james on the team, its still hard to convince a top coach to come here, kyrie irving and unlimited cap space or not...its still cleveland

All-in-all, The Cavs have options but no top flight guys like Phil Jackson are interested. Bottom line there are some possibilities out there and the current core the Cavs have and future draft options should be very appealing to a incoming coach. Let's see what's out there:

The Van Gundy's (Jeff and Stan) - Both have had HC stints but nothing overly impressive IMO. Stan may be a better choice than Jeff, but which fits into the Cavalier's future the best?

Mike Brown - Option? Yes. The choice? I hope not. He isn't Phil Jackson and I don't think he is the savior for this franchise.

Brian Shaw (asst. w/IND) - Definitely bring in for an interview. Consider

Nate McMillan - Stints with Seattle and Portland led to inconsistent and mediocre results. Led Portland to 3 consecutive playoff runs but early exits in the 1st round. No thank you.

Scott Skiles - Hard nosed guy that has been an average coach in the NBA. Does he fit in Cleveland?

Flip Saunders - Another average coach that I feel reached his pinnacle with Detroit from 05-08. He may be burned out after his stint in Washington. No thank you.

Mo Cheeks - Loved him as a player with the 76ers. Not as a HC. Pass

Jerry Sloan - Great coach and would love him in Cleveland if he was 20 years younger. Dude just turned 71 this year and would not be the best choice unless the Cavs wanted him for development purposes short term.

Mike Malone (asst. w/GS) - Young assistant looking for his shot. Interview.

Melvin Hunt - Do not know enough to offer an opinion.

Rex Kalamian (asst w/ OKC) - Do not know enough to offer an opinion.

Mike Budenholzer (asst w/OKC) - Do not know enough to offer an opinion.

Tom Izzo - He is god in East Lansing, why leave a gig like that?

John Calipari - Not good at the pro level. He is a god in Lexington. See above.

Rick Pitino - Not good at the pro level. He is a god in Louisville. See above.

John Beilein - WHO??? A scUM coach coaching a Ohio pro team. Blasphemy!! Sorry I put his name on this list.

Granted they could very well get someone else but those are most of the names I've seen floating around on various sites. At his point, bring in Shaw, Malone, or Sloan. Just my two cents.

goodbye lebron also

This is NOT true... 'supposedly' this is not a bad thing from people that 'know'. What they say is LeBron actually didn't mind Mike Brown and say he respects Brown for teaching him defense. So they think this will have little affect on him. (ie not a negative, but not a plus either)

While I personally hate the move (I prefered a younger defensive minded assistant coach) it can work... as long as Mike Brown has learned he knows nothing about offense and is willing to give someone the reigns on offense. And remember... he was trying to use a princeton style offense with the Lakers that failed miserably... but that was the system we had here under Byron Scott (which worked) so maybe... maybe... he tries to keep that offense and it works better here because of Kyrie.

he was the pick of the litter for retread head coaches. according to jason lloyd, who broke this, he had deals on the table from phx for certain, and possibly the bobcats.

the only redeeming thing about it is the fact that the cavs have basically insisted he bring in a top notch offensive assistant.

Is Quicken Loans being investigated by the FBI too? Quick, we need to devalue assists. Is Mike Brown still getting paid from his first stop in Cleveland?

I hope not! I just refinanced my home with those guys....for the 2nd time!? Coincidence? :paranoid:
