Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

In case it wasn't obvious - this is a decent team, NOT a good team.

The Browns have at least taken the step where they're soundly beating bad teams and reasonable beating teams with similar quality rosters (Colts) It's a farcry from the days of 3 win seasons with 2 wins being against true bottom feeder teams with another being against a team that literally fell asleep that week. Still a great deal of work to be done between the coaches and personnel wise.

Sadly the largest of said work will be addressing the QB position. Baker hasn't really grown much since his time at OU and sadly the results play out quite obviously on the field. At this point, I'm convinced my darkhorse from a few years ago (Benkurt) could be every bit as good (better) and he was an UDFA. At least this front office wasn't the one who invested in Mayfield, so it should make the break a good bit quicker and cleaner than others.

Spend all that money on the O-line this off-season and they sure as hell did not show up against the Squealer's or Ratbirds. Beginning to wonder if they were worth it. Bitonio spent more time my on his back along with JT and the X Squealer.

Beginning to wonder about Baker. He did not play well at all yesterday (maybe can attribute some bad play to his ribs) but he had not played very well this entire season. Not sure if Stefanski's offense is made to play in the AFC North. Maybe if he had the Squealer's personnel it might be possible.

They won't turn the corner until they have their man at the QB position. Just can't get behind Baker. Not only bc I didn't like him when he was at OU but I don't think he is good enough to lead this team to a playoff win making the same mistakes he did as a rookie.

At least they are relevant this year and have been more entertaining to watch (before yesterday's clunker), which is more than can be said for the past 15-20 years, but all that does is get them to 8-8 or 9-7 and a mid 1st rd pick. They need d8fference makers, especially in their back 7, to go with Ward.

Maybe without an early pick they'll actually pick a competent QB...nah, who am I kidding, they'll make terrible trades to get up to a first 5 position and draft another overhyped QB that ends up no better than mediocre.

Their record of taking QBs low in round 1 is actually worse than the early guys, which is scary

I'm not sure what the contract extension situation is for Baker. I think I saw an article last week where his 5th year option is the average of the top 10 paid QB's in the league, which is going to be too much for him unless he has drastic improvement. I'm guessing he'll get next year unless he starts laying eggs like yesterday against worse defenses. If I could get him for cheap I'd be interested in getting Haskins out of DC to see what he can do in this offense. He might be able to pull a Tannehill in the right situation and time to learn to be an NFL QB.

The fact is..... they keep picking the wrong ones, regardless of where they are drafted.

It hurts even more when you see the Steelers keep pulling stud WR's out of their ass. Now DPJ could be performing like Claypool if he was put in that situation rather than the Browns offense. it would be nice to find a diamond in the rough type player every once in a while. The biggest key to team NFL success is finding an above average QB without breaking the bank for a few years. The Browns haven't been able to find anyone better than a game manager since they came back. I'm not going to write Baker completely off yet. He has some potential to improve and if he is willing to sign an extension for game manager type money rather than Watson/Mahomes money he might be able to stick around beyond next year.

Oline played fine vs the Ravens. Hoping you're just not now having an off feeling about Baker. He's been the main offensive hurdle for 2 years now.

Edit: 5th year option won't be picked up, you can forget that one already.

So the question becomes, what kind of production do we think we can get at what cost being that the top QB's won't be in our draft range so long as we're remotely competitive or mortgaging the farm for a top 5 trade..?

The Ratbird defensive front seven does not bring it like the Squealers and what was that score anyway. Maybe Teller would have made a minor difference yesterday and saved one sack.

I do not think Baker is going anywhere real soon. Maybe after next season like Xhawg mentioned above. I think if he would get some protection it would not be so bad but just bad. I do not understand why KS does not roll him out more.
