Cleveland Browns (Factory of Sadness)

Cleveland Browns co-owner Jimmy Haslam on Monday called the team's trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson a "big swing-and-miss."

"We took a big swing-and-miss with Deshaun," Haslam said Monday at the league's annual meeting. "We thought we had the quarterback; we didn't. And we gave up a lot of draft picks to get him, so we've got to dig ourselves out of that hole.

"... [The trade] was an entire organization decision and it ends with Dee [Haslam] and I, so hold us accountable."
.
.
.
Cleveland still owes Watson $46 million in each of the next two seasons.

The Browns' quarterback room currently consists of Watson and Kenny Pickett, whom the team traded for in mid-March. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Pickett will get an opportunity to compete to start in 2025.

Despite the admission that the Watson trade was unsuccessful, Haslam said the team is not tied to taking a quarterback with the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

"It would be great if we could get 'the quarterback,' but we're not going to force it," Haslam said. "We're going to be patient and we're going to try to accumulate as many really good football players as we can."

No shit?

They can't be that dumb. They've actually been going out of their way to bring in Buckeyes over the past several years. Hopefully they realize McCord is no Buckeye.

Would he be the worst quarterback the Browns picked since 1999? My vote is "no".
Pick #4 is the 4th round?
For the record, I am not saying they should pick him in the 4th round. In fact, I'll flat-out say that I do not want them to pick him in the 4th round. I am only saying that they can do worse, and they have done worse.

If we're going to take a flyer on a mid-round quarterback, I'd rather pick someone who didn't abandon his team before the bowl game because he was butt hurt.

I don’t think McCord is actually in play for Cleveland. You can see Cleveland has a “type” they’re looking for and McCord is not it….

They moved off Baker bc they didn’t think he had the physical ability to handle CLE come Oct through December.

They thought DeShaun had the physical tools similar to Lamar and even Josh Allen in Buffalo where he could succeed in the face of brutal field conditions.

McCord was trash in cold weather games against any team with a pulse of a defense. He put up nice stats playing in the ACC and in a dome in Syracuse. He’s not on Cleveland’s board IMO…they look at all that shit.

IMO, based on physical traits, the (2) guys I think are the highest probability would be Jalen Milroe or Will Howard. Both guys, in theory, fit what you need in NFC North although they bring it in different ways….

I'd rather that they do lots of things differently from how they've done them.
I hope they don't pick him.
There will be lots of worse picks available.
They have picked worse in the past. Remember when they used a first and second round pick to select a tight end? Not two different tight ends - it was one tight end they used 2 picks to get.
Remember when they selected some doof from up north to play punt returner on every single defensive play? He played linebacker and strong safety and corner back for the doofuses up north, but Cleveland put him at free safety, and played him so deep every play that it became a 10 versus 11 game.
Then there was some running back - was he from Alabama? I forget. The smartest thing the Browns did with him was trade him to the Colts. Was that Trent Richardson?
And I'm sure we could list a bunch more bad draft picks the Browns have made.
