Cleveland Browns (Factory of Sadness)

The silver lining is that this team isn't completely devoid of talent like the early 2000s and there is a competent coaching staff in place.

Wouldn't take a whole hell of a lot to actually field a competitive team that at least isn't embarrassing to watch.

The Eagles are proof that you can quickly recover from a bad QB contract, but you have to draft well, which Berry has never shown an aptitude for.

True. To his credit, the picks he has made have been at least sensible. Apart from maybe Jed Wills, you don't see disgusting reaches with incredibly questionable production or skill-sets that don't translate to the NFL.

However the front offices love of RAS numbers is a concern when the production and film doesn't back it up.

Bless your heart.

At this point I'm dispassionate. The bulk of my investment is more about being an analyst and making money off of the Browns gambling.

But there's still that faint glimmer of love for this team and town I got from my old man that I might never shake.

Jed didn't work out, but that is pretty common. Becton flamed out until the Eagles moved him to OG. Wirfs would have been the right pick, but he played RT for the first part of his career until they moved him. Maybe Wills would have done better if they moved Conklin over and let him play RT to start out. Jones seemed to switch sides better but he needs to lose a bunch of weight if he's going to be the answer at either OT spot.

I'd be willing to give Jed a shot at RT to see if his kickstep and over-setting improves on his natural side. Sliding to guard, similar to how Bitonio was coming out of college, isn't out of the question either.

Love some Big Thanos, but if the Browns draft Left & Right tackles at any points (hopefully they do) I wouldn't blame them in the least. Dawand has shown up way overweight and has continued injury issues. It's not a sound strategy to count on him being available over the grind of a full season.

Also my concern, as we abandon this experiment with Watson and the gun-based vertical zone, is that Dawand now finds himself potentially out of place scheme-fit wise. Asking any OT to reach a backside 3i/4 tech takes a talented pro. Now ask that same thing of a 6'9 375lb mammoth of a human being. That's not including things like playside stretch, the outside zone pin and pull, etc etc. If this coaching staff is committed to going back under center, their bread and butter O.Z., I wouldn't be opposed to them moving DJ for a decent price. edit: Would probably be mutually beneficial.

It isn't just about money for Garrett. I get that he wants to win and realizes that he probably only has a couple prime years left. The Watson trade/contract ruined the Browns salary cap situation and they haven't done a good enough job drafting talent to have a SB level team. In order to get traded Garrett will likely have to sign some type of extension to get the deal to happen. If by not signing anything now he can at least leave when his contract is up. He might only be in his prime for a couple more years, but he'll still be a really good DE for 5-7 years if he want's to keep playing.

It's the Browns so I'm sure they'll do something dumb like draft an overrated QB with the number 2 pick and try to kick the rebuild that they need down the road.

Myles strikes me as the kind of player who would take the minimum salary for a year or two just for a chance to win a ring. I’m not saying he will, and he certainly won’t with the Clowns, but I could see him do it for maybe the Lions or Bills.

He’s already earned well over $100 million. There’s only so many nice cars and Apple products the dude can own.
