Corey Coleman for Carson Wentz will probably go down as the worst trade in NFL history. Coleman was a one-trick pony in a one-trick offense, and he had a history of injuries and poor character. I really wonder if Sashi Brown did any due diligence before drafting that bum #15 overall in the 2016 draft. Coleman was every bit as bad a selection as Johnny Manziel or Justin Gilbert. Pure trash.
And this was all coming off of the heels of a 2009 draft that the Browns actually traded out of taking 2 disaster QBs (Sanchez and Freeman) and actually made a good pick in Alex Mack, but then followed that up with using those picks in the worst second round of drafting of all time, including the player I would consider the worst pick in any round ever because it was obvious from the start the guy had no position and would never work out (Veikune). For as bad as their drafting was in the 2000s, it has somehow been worse in the 2010s. Just look at this shit:
2010: #7, CB Joe Haden - the anomaly. Carved out a solid first five years before injuries caught up to him and he fell off a cliff. 7 years in Cleveland, 2 Pro-Bowls, cut in 2017. Browns totals, 90 games, 81 starts, 370 tackles, 3 sacks, 20 interceptions, 100 passes defended, 4 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries. Now with the Stillers where he is an average starting CB.
2011: #21, DT Phil Taylor - Showed some promise as a rookie, but did nothing after that season. 4 years in Cleveland, cut in 2015. Browns totals, 44 games, 42 starts, 109 tackles, 7 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery. Has not played in the NFL after Cleveland.
2012: #3, RB Trent Richardson - One of the biggest busts in NFL history. After a "meh" rookie year, was traded for a first rounder (more on this later) after 2 games in his 2nd year. Played 29 games in Indy, out of the league since. Browns totals, 17 games/starts, 1055 yards (3.5 ypc), 11 tds, 58 catches, 418 yards, 1 td. Out of the league since 2014.
#22, QB Brandon Weeden (aka, the pick that made me tap out) - nearly 30 year old qb from an air raid system. After fairly bad rookie year, benched after 5 games in year 2. Cut following 2nd year. Browns totals, 23 games, 20 starts, 5-15 W-L, 55.9%, 5116 yards, 23 td, 26 int, 71.8 QBR. Has bounced around the league as a backup since, now in Houston.
2013: #6 OLB Barkevious Mingo - Marginally productive college player (38 tackles, 4.5 sacks as a Jr). Lasted three years in Cleveland, dealt in 2016 for a 5th round pick. Browns totals, 46 games, 16 starts, 102 tackles, 7 sacks 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery. Has bounced from NE to IND to SEA as a backup.
2014: #8 CB Justin Gilbert - Another epic bust. Career highlight was a pick-6 as a rookie, did nothing else. Dealt for a 6th round pick in 2016). Browns totals, 23 games, 3 starts, 33 tackles, 1 interception, 8 passes defended. Lasted one uneventful year in Pittsburgh, now out of the league.
#22 QB Johnny Manziel - Here's your return for Richardson. Great job, Clowns! A disaster for two years. Cut in 2016. Browns totals, 15 games, 8 starts, 2-6 W-L, 57.0%, 1675 yards, 7 td, 7 int, 74.4 QBR. Now sucking in Canada.
2015: #12 DT Danny Shelton - Seemed like a safe pick at the time, spent 3 "meh" seasons on the DL for terrible clowns defenses. Traded in 2018 with a 5th round pick for a 3rd rounder. Now in NE.
#19 OL Cam Erving - Questionable pick from the start. Was one of the worst OL in the league. Spent 2 years bouncing around the Browns OL. Traded in 2017 for a 5th round pick. Browns totals, 29 games, 17 starts. Now a backup with KC.
2016: #15 WR Corey Coleman - Idiotic pick, system WR from an air raid offense with injury and personal issues. Crap receiver for 2 years. Most memorable moment was a drop. Browns totals, 19 games, 18 starts, 56 catches, 718 yards, 5 tds. Traded to Buffalo for a 7th round pick who cut him a month later for being a pain in the ass.
2017: #1 DE Myles Garrett - Showed promise as a rookie, logging 7 sacks in 11 games. Has an injury history, which is always concerning in Cleveland. Currently starting DE.
#25 DB Jabrill Peppers - Clowns passed on Malik Hooker, who looked like a real player as a rookie before an injury, to take a guy who created one turnover in 3 college seasons. Thought was he would at least be a decent returner, but averaged a whopping 6.0 per punt return and an unspectacular 22.7 per kick return. Showed same bad tendencies from college as a DB...poor tackling, takes bad angles. 57 tackles, 1 int, 1 fumble recovery as a rookie. Looks like he remains a starting S for now.
#29 TE David Njoku - Clowns traded back into 1st round to take him. Showed some promise as a rookie, catching 32 passes for 386 yards and a team-high 4 tds. Starting TE.
So, of 13 1st round picks this decade (not counting 2018's picks), one player has made a Pro-Bowl. 7 could be considered total busts (Richardson, Weeden, Mingo, Gilbert, Manziel, Erving, Coleman). 2 at least contributed somewhat, but not near their draft position (Taylor, Shelton). Jury is out on 2017's three.
Many have been dealt, and the returns have been mostly laughable.
#3 pick, dealt for 1st rounder that turned into JOHNNY MANZIEL...whoops!
#6 pick, dealt for a 5th rounder (subsequently traded) after 3 years
#8 pick, dealt for 6th rounder (subsequently traded) after 2 years
#12 pick, dealt with a 5th round pick for a 3rd rounder (DE Chad Thomas) after 3 years
#19 pick, dealt for 5th rounder after 2 years (pick subsequently traded)
#15 pick dealt for a 2019 7th rounder after 2 years
3 were eventually cut
#21 pick after 4 years
#22 pick after 2 years
#22 pick after 2 years
It is mind boggling how poorly they've drafted. At least Garrett looks like a player if he can stay healthy and Njoku could be a player. Peppers looks like a classic Clowns pick, though. Will wait for more data before judging Mayfield/Ward.
Those first round picks should be the foundation of the team. Five of them are already out of the League, two more are barely hanging on, and none has been a legit star (although Garrett still has the potential). No surprise this team went 1-31 over the past two seasons. For as bad as their drafting was in the 2000s, it has somehow been worse in the 2010s. Just look at this shit:

Well, to state the obvious...starting an undrafted rookie at LT, against Cam Heyward and company is not exactly fucking ideal. Him showing out and actually seizing the job permanently and actually doing well (or even adequately) would be, like, an all-timer story.Looks like Desmond Harrison will start at LT. Major props to him, kid was out of football for 2 years to coming in as a UDFA, showing out, and out performing the 33rd overall pick in Corbett.
Also seems they are putting Corbett at backup C so Tretter will walk after this year and Corbett will slide in. Don't look now....the Browns may have an OL figured out....but something will go wrong.
