This will end in tears.
Rosen doesn't want to play for the Clowns. IMO, he is going to be a terrific pro. That leaves Darnold or Allen. Darnold will be a disaster. He was a turnover machine this year, and what do you think's going to happen when the speed of the game gets cranked up to eleven? Allen's hype is based purely on measurables. He was spectacularly mediocre this season. The excuse being made is that he had a lousy supporting staff. Well, he played at Wyoming, it's not like he was facing stiff competition. People want him to be Carson Wentz. Wentz was very productive and won a ton of games in college. Was his supporting cast at friggin' North Dakota State that much better? Nah, not buying it.
Honestly, for once, I don't have much of an opinion on what they should do because I don't see an obvious move. They can draft Rosen anyway and watch him pull an Elway, Stouffer or Eli. If they draft Darnold they are exactly who we thought they were. No way they go Allen #1. They're in a [Mark May] spot. If they don't get a QB this year, they're probably kicking the can down the road until 2020, because 2019 looks pretty bleak for QBs. I'm not really sure what the move should be besides "not Darnold." Maybe trade out of #1, hope you can get Allen lower and hope you can develop him behind {insert veteran retread here}. I'd probably draft Barkley at #4 and hope Denver is willing to pay a King's ransom for Rosen at 1. Then grab Allen there. I'm just not convinced Allen is going to ever develop into a franchise QB. Rosen really fucked them.
