Its deadspin so grain of salt but this does not seem out of the realm of possibility for the Browns.
And never forget the inviolable rule of the modern NFL: Whether or not the Browns take you determines whether you become a good quarterback, and not the other way around.
Saw a very similar article on a few other sites last week so I would think that there is some validity to the article on deadspin unfortunately.http://deadspin.com/report-the-browns-fired-a-bunch-of-scouts-who-liked-ca-1786816387

Tim Couch.. is that you?I do not think Wentz would be the #1 overall QB on PFF or any other site if he were playing for the Browns. You just cannot throw the football when you are being blown up by DL every other play. McCown is one tough son of a bitch and until the Browns address the OL in the draft getting the best QB available is not going to help.
It was noble of the browns to not deprive the league of one of the few potential franchise QBs reaching the league in the next few years. He'd be in the gurney by week 4 if he were a brown. The Browns are losing quarterbacks quicker than Spinal Tap loses drummers.
While I agree with much of what you have said, the problem the Browns are going to have with all of these young players and draft picks is 4 years or less down the road when most of these younger players will become free agents. I know the Browns have quite a bit of cap space currently but these young guys are going to want to be paid down the road. I know that it is 3-4 years away, but it is still going to be a problem.1 maybe 2 wins is ok with me. For having a team with a ton of 1st and 2nd year players, they showed heart yesterday. Danny played quite well on the interior, Nate had a few nice plays. Nassib continues to show the motor
he just needs work on a secondary move and stacking/shedding. Kindred has been a nice find especially as a 5th DB on early downs. He's not afraid of contact or being in the box so we can still be aggressive against the run.
Joe was looking a bit like himself yesterday, big time on that first pick. He read the pattern all day long. Taylor opened up too early on that TD pass, double move got him well. Kirksey was flying around yesterday, if our backers
could be just a bit more active in underneath coverage...
CC looked explosive, Pryor is a physical mismatch, Hawk did some good things early on along with Barney being reliable. Having Gordon back can only make things better.
I don't see this team as having year 1 expansion type dearth of talent. We need a QB, but more importantly we need a center (Cam out so probably addition by subtraction) and we need to either address RT in the draft or hope Shon gets healthy quick and shows why I liked him in the draft. As it stands from C to RT is getting our QB's killed. [Mark May], this offense actually looked explosive when McCown had time to throw.
I know there will bad days ahead this season, but its a necessary evil. If a franchise QB presents himself, and you can get protection for him meanwhile improving the front 7 and depth on that backend... this team might not suck in due time.
The Browns will have the same OL problems next season, with Joe Thomas being one more year past his prime. Good luck to Kizer, Watson, etc.It was noble of the browns to not deprive the league of one of the few potential franchise QBs reaching the league in the next few years. The Browns have been addressing the OL in the draft. It's the one area where they've actually drafted well: Thomas (1st in 2007); Mack (1st in 2009); Schwartz (2nd in 2012); and Bitonio (2nd in 2014) formed a good nucleus for an offensive line. But the analytics gurus saw fit to blow it up and start over.I do not think Wentz would be the #1 overall QB on PFF or any other site if he were playing for the Browns.
