I really don't think he's as bad as he showed in Washington. I also don't think you can rely on him in any capacity. The fact that he signed a chase Daniel level backup 2 year deal shows the browns aren't viewing him as a legit starter either.

If the Browns pass on Carson Wentz in the hopes of rehabilitating RG3's career, then I will forever be done with this team.
God, this scares the shit out of me, wentz I mean... And yeah, I've seen the tape. I think they have to take him though. My guess is, they're rightly concerned that he may need to go slowly... I think they can use both.

If they are concerned Wentz may grow slowly, then why waste a first round pick on him, take someone in the 2nd/3rd if they are that concerned about the speed of development. To me if he isn't starting in year 2 then he's not worth the #2 overall pick in the draft on a team with eleventy billion holes on it, and a roster that looks like the walker's cast from TWD

For the same reason that Green Bay "wasted" a first round pick on Aaron Rodgers.

You mean like the next Charlie Frye / Colt McCoy? Sorry, I'll pass.

The Browns have had crappy QB play for 17 seasons, and they have an 87-185 record (.320 winning percentage) to show for it. It's time to draft a franchise QB.

QB is the biggest hole that needs to be filled, and it's a hole that hasn't been filled for 17 years. All Pro centers and safeties and tight ends and place kickers have given you the worst record in football since 1999. Time to stop screwing around and get the franchise QB now.

And to squash another canard before it rears its ugly head: The Browns have blown first round picks on QBs in the past, so they shouldn't draft one now.

The Browns have also blown first round picks on running backs (Richardson; Green), wide receivers (Edwards), tight ends (Winslow), offensive linemen (Faine, maybe Erving), defensive linemen (Brown, Warren, Taylor, maybe Shelton), linebackers (Wimbley, Mingo), and defensive backs (Gilbert). So that leaves punter and place kicker. Roberto Aguayo, anyone?

Couple non-mutally exclusive things here. First, they're paying RGIII high level back-up money. So, his presence precludes nothing. Second, even if Wentz grows quickly, its reasonable to believe that he may have further to grow, for example, than a power 5 school QB. (And to be fair, for an FCS schedule, ND State's last season was legit, for FCS). Finally, QB's bust. It happens. That's the scary, but, if you think all the pieces are there, you have to take the gamble on this kid.

I see/agree with your points - just one counter point ... Rodgers was drafted in the 20s... not top 5 overall. It might not make a bit of difference but they also had a starting Hall of Fame/Super Bowl Champ at QB the time of the draft.

If they believe he's the guy then draft him, but if they have doubts... use the pick on someone else... we'll be backup at the top for the next couple of years the way this roster is built.
