Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

Being optimistic, Pittsburg is winnable, split the series with the Bungles and the Birds.

Oakland, Tennessee, Tampa & Houston are winnable games. I guess Jacksonville as well.

Wild cards being Buffalo and maybe Indy. We get Colts at home and I'm praying their Oline is garbage again.

Wilcots is possibly the worst man to pick for a Browns broadcast. Stellar.

As for the schedule, the middle isn't terrible, but after they get off to a bad start and have a bad finish, it won't matter.

vegas has the current over/under on browns wins at 6.5, with 3 to 2 odds on the over. so, it would appear vegas is asking people to take the under. perhaps vegas is anticipating some regression from baltimore and pitt in the afc north.

While Bernie may be a concussed, drunken slob, his game insight is next to none. Plus his harsh commentary last year was pretty damned funny. It's a shame because Wilcots is a hack call man.
Bernie is asking the Browns and WKYC to reconsider
Bernie Kosar ask Browns, WKYC to reinstate him as analyst
I really do not care if Bernie has a few drinks before or even during the game.. He still is much more knowledgeable than Wilcox who I cannot even stand when he does the regular season games. This is not sitting well at all with Browns fans and hopefully the Browns will reconsider. This is just a very stupid move.

I should have been more clear about what I meant: They are FAR from similar players to be sure, I just meant that drafting a late-first rounder at a position of glaring need seems to be inadequate, much like it was with drafting Quinn and Weeden late first. Not saying drafting a QB in the early first always works out but I really do think there is a serious talent disparity between Manziel and Bridgewater vs. Bortles, Carr, Garapollo, McCarron, etc. I know many disagree with me but I do think either of Johnny or Teddy would be a great pick in the first 5 picks if you have a serious need at QB. Now whether the scouts think the disparity between those two QBs and the others is there or not, I do not know.

Nah, I understood what you meant other than the correlation between Carr Quinn and Weeden. Point is I don't see where (and I mean Ray Farmer, not you) if they think that Manziel (or any other QB) isn't "their" guy at 4 (compared to the other options) and Carr (or any other QB) is "their guy" at 26 (compared to the other options), I don't really care what Weeden, Quinn or anyone else panned out.

Part of me thinks they're not in love with either, and are sort of wondering if Bridgewater goes into freefall.... you know, like Quinn did... or... Aaron Rodgers did, and might consider that risk with a number of back up plans.

The other thing to mention about Manziel is... and this is linked to his maturity level that I mentioned earlier is... I think you need to be mindful of the demands and expectations that will go along with the job. You're gonna have to be mautre enough to handle the fan base. Not to actually compare it to Jackie Robinson, but, we need someone that can break the "Browns Quarterback Barrier" and not flake out like Couch did or act like a mindless dumbass like Weeden. Whoever it is, is more than likely gonna have a tough road ahead of them, and have the mental make-up to navigate that path.

This will be a very interesting decision because there is an awful lot of money tied up on the defensive side of the ball. The Browns have enough money and for $5.5 mil I guess I would keep him..
Cleveland Browns and NFL Links: Phil Taylor hopes team will exercise fifth-year option

quite interesting to look at the number of snaps he played during the first 6-7 games of the year and the rest of the season, and the correlation to defensive productivity. of course, desmond bryant getting hurt also played a role in that. so, it will be interesting to see how often he's out on the field for the new staff. that may be a good indicator of whether or not that 5th year is picked up, which I assume it will be.

but they can't wait and see how many snaps he plays this season because the option has to be picked up by May 3 unless I am missing something

I hear you and it really is subjective to the owners and scouts on how where they have everyone on their boards. I could certainly see Bridgewater free-falling...Bortles won't fall past Minnesota at #8 and Manziel likely won't go past Tampa at #7. And if he did, I would rather have the Bengals take him at #24 since we have no clear position of need and we might not extend Dalton's contract past this year (I have zero faith in him)...they won't do it probably, just saying. I suppose if they truly like Carr that much, they could just wait. That being said (and I am by no means an expert), I think all three of Manziel, Bortles, and Bridgewater go in the top ten to one of Houston, Jacksonville, Minnesota, and/or Tampa if Cleveland does not take one of them.

As to your last paragraph, me not being a Brown's fan probably limits my understanding of the pressure. I am just treating my analysis as if I was a Cleveland fan and had the #4 and #26 pick, which probably skews my opinion. I think Johnny rises to pressure well on game-day and usually will, question is whether he treats the gig like a profession, which is necessary in the NFL. I think he can but of course, that is the question mark.

I have no idea how the Browns brass weighs that factor, but, if it were me, it would be a pretty big deal, at least to the degree that I'd spend a #4 pick on someone.
