Cleveland Browns (2014 Season)

I'm not suggesting he is worth it just for entertainment value. I am just saying I don't think he is more or less likely to flop than Bridgewater or Bortles (in fact, I think he is the better prospect)...so if he does flop, as I think any of Mack, Watkins, Bortles, Bridgewater, etc. could, at least you have the excitement/entertainment value.

I do not think any of the Qb's are really worth the fourth pick, there are too many other solid options. Trading back would be a great option if the situation presented itself. I think that the QB they like is Carr but I could also see them not taking one at all.

Just a difference on opinion then, I think Manziel and Bridgewater are both top 5 picks (I don't care what Bridgewater did at his pro day, I think he fits well in Jacksonville). And I also do not think Hoyer is an NFL starter or even a stop-gap really, but time will tell I suppose. You can get away with a mediocre QB if the rest of your team is elite (Eli has two rings because of a killer defense in NY) but that is not the case here...I just think you need a legit QB and I do not really see Carr being any different than Weeden at 26.

Depending on how far the tumble - I'd have little issue with a trade down. The issue with taking Matthews and putting him at RT for 3-4 years as the heir to Thomas is that after that amount of time, you have someone grown accustomed to the position dedicating quite a few offseasons only to be abruptly switched.

Ideally I'd like OT/OLB, WR & QB in the first two rounds. That's if a trade down occurred I could see Matthews, Carr, then Mosely and best WR available. Cooks, maybe? Lee? Abbrederris? Not many people talking about Robinson out of Penn State. I thought the kid was pretty damn solid. Plenty of WR options. I'd love to take Watkins and have him be the next Julio Jones. But much like Julio - the injury bug is a concern. Especially for a franchise as snakebit as this one.

Either way, I see a QB at #4 as a monumental fuck up. Especially in this draft.
The reason I would like the Browns to take another WR rather than Watkins is because I believe that Watkins may quite a few catches and yards on WR screen plays and those do not work very well in the NFL. Another WR that no one is talking about besides Robinson is Matthews out of Vanderbilt. I think there are just too many good WRs to take one of the first round especially #4.

I just read an article where it said that Coach Pet only used his base defense about 50% of the time while he was in Buffalo and also while with the Jets. Perhaps that is the reason that there is not much talk about taking a LB but then again he was playing 5-6 DB's so perhaps one of those might be going at #26 and after.

That had better be the most amazing smoke screen Farmer has produced. Hey, fuck it. Just when I thought the Browns couldn't have possibly outdone the colossal failure that is Weeden - they prove me wrong.
Do not worry all the top QB's are visiting Cleveland this week for physicals and conversation. I know that you do not like Johnny but if the Browns select him I will be fine with the pick unlike the majority of guys. To be honest, I have no idea who I would select at #4 but I do not think that I would take your favorite WR when there are so many of them available in this draft.

Taking this backwards, and I don't mean this contentiously at all... but, the problem with "not seeing Carr being any different than Weeden at 26" is that they aren't the same guy. they might suck equally, but, just because one didn't work out has nothing to do with the other, any more than every 6th round pick will be Tom Brady. I don't know if Carr will end up being any good or not...

Now, with that said, I get the sense with Manziel that he probably would be an upgrade compared to Hoyer (all things being equal) as far as number of wins... but, it almost seemed perfect earlier when someone posted the Jerry Jones rumor about him replacing Romo. That, to me, seems like what he might end up being, a pretty good QB who takes a lot of risks, wins a good number of games and throws too many picks at big moments trying to force plays and doesn't really get you close to a championship.

So, then you get back to, getting away with a mediocre QB if the rest of the team is elite... I dunno how much taking Watkins or someone else contributes to that or not. But, does that approach get you more wins than Romo...errr... I mean Manziel.

Having said all that I think the biggest question mark is maturity, if you think he's "there" in that respect, he obviously has an intriguing skill set even with his size accounted for.

Joe Thomas will be 29 this season; a bit early to be working on his predecessor IMO.

Billy Turner, a kid from NDSU I believe, would be a solid pick in the 3rd or so if need be, but I wouldn't rush an OT pick. If we could trade down though, I'd be ecstatic. I still think Jordan Matthews out of Vandy will be a WR steal in this draft.

I should have been more clear about what I meant: They are FAR from similar players to be sure, I just meant that drafting a late-first rounder at a position of glaring need seems to be inadequate, much like it was with drafting Quinn and Weeden late first. Not saying drafting a QB in the early first always works out but I really do think there is a serious talent disparity between Manziel and Bridgewater vs. Bortles, Carr, Garapollo, McCarron, etc. I know many disagree with me but I do think either of Johnny or Teddy would be a great pick in the first 5 picks if you have a serious need at QB. Now whether the scouts think the disparity between those two QBs and the others is there or not, I do not know.

It is - especially since he has 5 seasons left on his contract (8 years extension signed in 2011). However, if you think that he'll be sticking around at 34 years old going into his last contract with the franchise that has done exactly squat (if they do not improve) at that point, you're high.

Maybe the Browns will have figured it out by then so he sticks around, but for sure we are about 3 years too early on that line of thinking.

I'll be in Columbus Saturday night for the Va Tech game and Cleveland Sunday afternoon to beat Pittsburgh at home in the opener.

Just had seen the new Browns schedule. Quite brutal.

Edit. First game @ Pittspuke. Nevermind, fuck that

This is going to be a boring 4-12 type season. The only teams they are going to be better than/even with going into the season are Tampa/Oakland and Jacksonville and I figured they'll beat someone they shouldn't just to fuck up the draft position.
